I cant help wondering if it is a limited run close tolerance metal casting being fitted into a Plastic/ABS Tank Body that was made using a machine that has already stamped out hundreds of thousands of Tank bodies the tolerances by now being way out,Whereas a Plastic/ABS ring will slide over the tight spots which the metal one wont,
Interestingly the new Taigen Panzer 4 Turret has bearings on its base that smooth's it as it tracks around the tank body,
Taigens attempt at lateral thinking perhaps?

With or without bearings the turret will try to twist in the hull turret hole. Usually with the plastic rings there is sufficient play to avoid binding. Most turrets are not balanced, having more weight either front or back depending on the model of tank.
With these metal turret rings, the manufacturer has made them closer to the hole size for the bearings to work.
Also as can be seen from your pictures, the bearings are right at the bottom of the hole flange, the worse possible place for accurate plastic moulding, where it's most likely to warp. Plastic mouldings are more likely to be inaccurate and warped because they are removed from the moulds too soon, and haven't cooled quite enough for extraction.

Balancing the turret and giving the hole a light sand would help.

I would like to say shorten the three mounting pegs equally, that are on the bottom of the turret for the screws to raise the ring, but one has to consider the gear meshing with the rotation device.

If they have gone to the trouble of putting bearings on the gear have they put bearings on the bottom of the turret?
A simple fix, as suggested earlier would be to put a disc spacer between the turret and the hull - 0.5mm thick is suggested.
Just wondering if the metal gear is intended for a metal turret with bearings protruding that 0.5mm.
A metal turret resting on a plastic hull is likely to wear the plastic away.

All the above - but then add a little silicone grease to the sliding surfaces. It cures most tight holes where there is binding.

I am planning to get the metal turret from Forgebear in the future, but sure if that would make it better or worse tho!

The biggest drawback to the metal Turret rings that I have seen is they do not have a slot for the slip ring and its wiring and as the turret ring is 360 you really don't want the turret and tank body wiring being torn out when you spin the turret.
I Have a metal turret ring in my evergrowing spares box but if I do decide to fit it I will mill a slot in it first to take a slip ring.

I should check first (slap wrist) but l seem to recall the metal rings at Forgebear are aluminium. If so, should be easier to drill/machine. One thing l notice on my tanks that have 360 turrets is that the slip ring 'barrel' is mounted off centre from the center if the circular ring so that the barrel moves around the often cramped hull interior as the turret revolves. Mounting it centrally would be advantageous if possible.
