I served with the 91st Bomb Group out of Bassingbourn where the Group fought the war by also consoling all the pretty UK women, while their husbands and boyfriends were off in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany.

And it was my Uncle, now 86 who did 2 tours out of England, in B-17s and B-24s. Though, I am quite sure there was nothing decent about the crew or women they dated (and 65+ years ago, they all would have all been damn proud of that): http://www.dfcsociety.org/citation_detail.asp?ID=3370
