Set the DMD to "test" mode, and shoot at a light colored wall. Should work. You need no other items, just the Tamiya system itself. I've installed a ton of them over the years, and never had one that did not work. And do set the tank at 90 degrees to the wall.

I have decided to fit the Battle system to the Pershing and have dismantled the turret to make a start I am also going to fit the IR emitter LED into the gunners sight

Pete, you are a genius! I have been pondering how to make a minefield, or booby traps, for months. I have always gone down the route of buying a darkith unit and rigging that up off a battery..but your idea is so simple it is brilliant. Cheap as chips. Only one snag though, the tv remote trick only works in test mode on Elmod, Darkith and Tamiya sensors..so how do we change the IR so that it fires on the same frequency as these??
Any electronics buffs out there? If this could be made to work it could be rigged to fit into a Pak too?

battle system fitted a few pictures showing the gear
I think I should have recessed the led a bit more, also the tank is stored with the main gun reversed to take up less room

Brel, if you can handle a soldering iron then I would get the Darkith unit, I am no soldering expert and I managed to build both the board and the IR unit without any problems. It works perfectly and is very modestly priced.
It looks complicated when you look at the manual on the site, but when you have it in front of you it is quite simple. You pick up part A123 push the wires into the board at the point B123 and solder them. Then the next part, and so on. It is all clearly labelled and the instructions are excellent.

If the Blitz is up to it (see the 'get well soon' thread

), or if you want to buy direct from David then I recommend the DBCRC2HL - you can use a seperate RC system so that ur not restricted to the original 27MHz channels.
Just be sure that the IR emitter lights up properly before you install it, as that seems to be a reccuring issue with my units - not sure if its a static discharge issue with the IR LED, or just dry joints, but I have some that work better than others :-\

is the Darkith unit compatible with the RX 18 board, because I have that board in my Tiger 1, i am also using the original 27 MHz radio
