Waethering air recon flags on tanks.

Hi Rob, how did you do the small scratches in the tank? The ones in the cuppola and so on?

The spots on the late Tiger you mean?
I have a stiff brush which I dab first on a towel or anything else laying around, to get the most paint off.
Than I make a test attempt.
If okay, I proceed with the tank.
You also can take a sponge, you know one of those yellow ones with the green top layer on one side.
Just rip a chunk off it and do the same as i did with the brush.
Easy peasy.
But as i said, make a test run first.....would be a pity if you get big lumps of paint on your model.....

Air recon flags, on top of the Tiger 1 would as rule, have littel weathering or none. It's purpose, was to protect the tank from German Aircraft accidentally attacking it.
Keeping it in good condition would have been a priority.

I can hardly find any pics from tanks withe those recon flags on it.
Thnkz for the pic, another idea of adding one to the tanks.

As expected, my stuff came in this afternoon.
2 x 200 liter (resin) fuel barrels
A set of copper tow cables
1 cupola machine gun
1 set of 3 ammo boxes
1 flat ammo box
and 4 German helmets.
Will have to weather and paint all these parts

I also painted the road wheels of the unmolested Tiger in 2 colors brown.
Made the spare tracks on the turret a bit rusty too.

Because the left-rear mudguard is missing, I will make some chunks of mud on the rear left side of the Tigers backplate
Sorry for one of my fingers being in the pic....


Put some paint on the front too


The next days I will play with the white glue and different colors of sand again, to make it look like dried mud.

The Recon flags were used in the beginning of the war especially when the luftwaffe had dominance. The latest and last battles that you can find Recon flags being used as Kursk. Go to jnewboy customs on YouTube and watch my Kursk tiger video and you can see them in several pics and on the model after weathering.

Nice vid and Tigers you did built.
Did you use cotton flags too? What did you use to make 'm pale/faded?
Are they glued onto the storage boxes?
Went through several of your vids, WOW...nice Panthers you built!
I do like those German tank commanders, would they fit 1/16 models too? Who's are they, I noticed you can move arms in several positions too.

When you guys take off some of the side skirts on Tigers, you put those little brackets back on, onto which the skirts were attached. like in real life.
What do you use for those parts?

This afternoon I figured out how to mount the fuel barrels on the Tigers.
I came up with the idea of making 4 wooden wedges to prevent them moving around at the back of the tanks.
They will be tight down with ropes or chains too, but the wooden wedges also avoided the barrels blocking off the grids on the rear deck, right?
I know....it's just foolin' around a bit, haha.

Took a piece of wood, made the diameter from the barrels on it, and here we go
