have been working on a pz4 version of the 88 / l 71 its beased on some info passed to me form henk of holland

lotts to do but i think you all get the idea

If a proto type was made  so be it if not and its a modelers fantasy so be it ether way it is some thing that could of been on someones mind and drawing board at the end of 1944 there is one person that thinks he remembers seeing one about 15 years ago if he wants to hill chim into this post .Ether way Im going to build one got a loyt of HL electronics and other stuff setting in boxes .

the Germans wanted to fit the 88 L71 main gun in the Tiger I but this would have been too heavy or too large for the turret this would have been a stop gap measure this idea was dropped and the Tiger II was produced with the 88 L71 main gun I have looked through all my books for information on this tank to no avail it's not even mentioned as a paper panzer with Jentz and Doyle this pair have spent over 30 years researching German tanks and are leading scholars in this field so if they don't mention it it didn't happen however there was a Jagdtiger built based on the VK3001 (H) chassis this was a filed Tiger prototype the tank was known as 12.8cm Selbstfhrlafette L/61 "Dicker Max" 2 prototypes where converted and sent to Russia one was destroyed the other captured almost intact in 1943 there are pictures of this tank with 22 victory rings on the barrel this tank is still on display in Russia.

A Jagpanther II was considered and this was a paper panzer I think it may have been based on the Panther II chassis no prototype was built

A Panzer IV hybrid with an 88 L71 main gun well again there is no information on this but one this is for sure the Jagdpanzer IV/70(V) and the (A) variant used a 75mm PaK42 L70main gun this was very heavy and caused the chassis to dip at the front the wheels where overstressed so they had to replace the first 4 each side with steel wheels anything bigger would have meant redesigning the suspension and placing larger road wheels to carry the extra weight, unfortunately it's eisler to build a model based on whatever you like but the reality is somewhat different I wonder how long it will be before we see a Panzer IV with a Tiger I turret and sloping nose armour   

After the war the allies experimented with captured German armour, they even built some German tanks (I think the Jagdpanther in Bovington was made after the war). So this could have been a UK/US experiment as stop gap measure against a Russian invasion of Europe.

if it runs around my backyard anything will work hell ill motorize the cat .

Don't care if they existed or not both the sturmtiger and Panzer IV 88mm L/71 to mention just a few look like damm fine builds to me  . For myself the hobby is about experimenting and thinking outside the box , having fun if you like. If you want historically accurate models, great then build them. Each to there own, the only stipulation I would have for any hobby is to enjoy it for what it is a diversion from everyday life ( playing acording to most wives and/or partenrs  ). All the best for now

maybe it was or may it was not .. i do have a set of drawings of the pz4 conversion and also an artical in millitary in scale .. so was there someting to the tanlk ??

I have seen that one got the same book so the Sturmtiger II could of been tested at one time also .

So Jentz and Doyle who are respected historians are wrong and all the material over the last 30 years is wrong and the German Federal archive is wrong where there material came from but one or two board modelers with no engineering skills are right I must admit they do look good, my point was so that people who know little about these tanks are not fooled into believing into fantasy, OK experts have you got any pictures
