Once upon a time I would always fix the emitter to the mantlet so it went up and down, but on some tanks that's not practical. So now I usually recess them into the front face of the turret, so you get rotation but no elevation. I've never really had an issue. The beam spread means that unless the difference in levels between the attacking tank and target are really big it won't be an issue
