Ugh. The more I sit here looking at her, the more I'm unsatisfied with the color. Too green. And that was the major complaint I had about the stock tanks. But before I repaint I'll wait 'till tomorrow to decide. Look at her in natural light. I don't want to do it if I don't have to. My ancient Verlinden US Stars are done for. These were the only salvageable ones on a whole sheet. And even these I had to do touch up paint.

Hi there Maccrage. You might consider applying some filters until the shade is to your taste instead of a real repaint. You can also vary the Color in sections or Overall like this.

It's not just that. Real US WW2 OD wasn't green. This is more like a monument or museum color. I messed up. I used the wrong paint. I didn't double check.

I'm no Sherman fan, but there is something about a .50 BMG on the turret of any tank that just tops it off.
I will agree that the green is an easy "museum shade" to look at, but then this is not a steel machine that has seen weeks on a ship, after weeks in a logistics yard after weeks getting to a marshaling yard for en-training to a port, then entering theatre of operations with God knows what weather overhead .......

Filters are the way to go. Will bring the right colors and tone it down.

Took a look at her in the sun. Not as bad as I thought. I'm not sure about filters. Never used them, so no clue how. This is the first time I've touched paint in over 6 years. Got busy with a son.

Maybe a brown wash. I found some waterlside decals for the stars. Just not sure what to do about the number.

A filter is a thin wash you apply over Areas. What they call a "wash" today, is not the wash from the old days. Today they call it "pin wash" to tell that it is for applying shadows around Details. Not covering the whole model anymore. But that is only the "Black and White" Explanation. Of Course it is up to you to add the various shades of gray, or even fancy Colors.

Have a look at the IPSM Barbakan channel on washes, they use Magenta filter on a Sherman. 8o

On my Sherman variants I use Vallejo acrylics light brown wash or oiled earth and thin it a bit to spray on the green to tone it down. It works very well for me

I've noticed painting has moved on. I'm used to sludge washes and drybrushing.
