If on the right hand side at the bottom of your transmitter is a sticker with "04" on it then it is a 27 Mhz control board and your Crystals are number "04"
If you shop around they are still available.

Son of a gun-ner wrote:Well done, so, now we know you need a crystal transmitter, either with a number four crystal, or a pair of crystals with any number on.
Always handy to know which number crystal you have.
My second tiger was second hand, came with a number three crystal, and a number one in the controller.
So, you can either shop around for a controller and pair of crystals, or put a wanted posting in the wanted section of this forum for them, or spend loads of money on upgraded electrics. The choice is yours.
I'm guessing your tank is a smoker.
Mick.
Thanks Mick, i'll keep reading on upgrades and decide whether to do that rather than replace. At the moment (very early) in my foray into modelling, i'll keep researching but will probably see if i can pick up a handset and new pair of crystals.
Am i right in thinking though, that If i bought another crystal (or set of crystals) that are the same number as my tiger, I could run whatever tank is switched on (both are the same age model it seems) at the time. (Obviously then the limitation is the life of the batteries in the handset).
Or if i bought a single number 04 crystal, I could switch handsets when I wanted to run the bulldog.

One of the reasons that there was a change from Analogue (Crystal) to Digital was that if you were in the company of others with Analogue Tanks and more than one of you had the same number of Crystal in the Tank/Transmitter that all hell would break loose when a command was issued for a tank because well you can guess the result, not nice.
Even worse with R/C Aircraft.
Digital rules.

Thanks Shaun, i can imagine the problems!
I'll see what crops up. Having read all the way through this
viewtopic.php?f=201&t=18880 thread i'm a bit awestruck and stuck between thinking that i'll never have a 10th of the patience of this builder, and being inspired to totally modify what I have.
Given that the two that I have didn't set me back a bomb (the Tiger I picked up complete and working for £30) it could be that these become test beds for developing some skills.

My Hero, I am sorry but calling you Mr Banana is a step further than I am prepared to go,
I would suggest you find a build for a Tiger 1 or a Panzer 4 that appeals most and follow along with it,
It is totally unimportant if you make a bodge of it, the great thing about our hobby is that nothing in your build cannot be reversed or changed,
Do your best because along the way you will be learning new skills that will hold you in good stead in your future builds,
In a year or twos time you can get a bottle of debonder and a few millilitres of Acrylic thinners and totally strip the Tank of all the external fittings and take all the paint and decals off and with your newly acquired skills make a cracking Tiger1 without the cost of buying one.
This is one hobby where learning on the job is the best way to go, by all means incorporate the hints and tips that you read and hear but its your Tank and it should be what you want it to be not a copy of someone else's.
And most important of all never ever forget you are doing this for FUN,
If it gets to be a chore put it to one side until the enthusiasm returns,
Shaun.

I shall leave the various glues and their different properties to others on the Forum,
I use glue only when there is no other choice,
For not too many ££ you can buy a "ROLSON" Mini Tap & Die set from Amazon which allows you to fit nuts and bolts instead of glue with the obvious advantage of removing bits and pieces with ease and not having to worry about breaking stuff.

are far and away the best supplier of small fixings, Well worth a visit.
