Hi Mick,
the actual ratio of the gearboxes (45.58 to 1 ) is in between the standard HL 3:1 and Taigen 4:1. (3:1= about 39:1 while the 4:1= about 90:1). Tamiya standard ratio are about 55:1.

So you could call them 3 1/2 :1 gearboxes. :haha:

P.S
I agree with you that they could benefit from a more powerful motor.

Cheers
AK

Still need to make that bulldog faster for my grandson :D

Mick.
Steel 4:1s with 480 motors. My Bulldog flies with that in it, even with metal tracks. Make sure to add a pound or two of weight to the front end. The heavy motors and gearboxes make it squat badly in the back. Looks like a speedboat on water when the tank is at full speed in the grass.

2 x 2800kv 400-size outrunners with a 3s LiPo , or 3800kv to 4300kv 390/400 size inrunners with a 2s LiPo pack will get that 'dune buggy speed' Think 10 to 15 km/h -or faster- instead of a sedate 4km/h... Needs 2 separate ESC's, ànd a proper transmitter+receiver though.
Oh, and be careful what You wish for. It'll be fast ( for a tank) but will eat gears, swingarms, tracks, idlers for breakfast. Ball-bearing everything is a mùst!

Otoh. Licmas Panzer has some Taigen 22000rpm 390-type long cans on offer. I believe I paid €13.- a pair. Not dune-buggy speed, but way faster than the stock HL affairs, or even the venerable Speed400's.

Then again, to me everything is slow. My rc buggies all do at least 55km/h and I also got a Traxxas funny car that tops-out at 115km/h ( on a 100m stretch of road no less... ìf I can prevent it from either taking-off, or skid into the sidewalk uncontrollably :haha: ) Even my boats stàrt at 25km/h with my beautiful retro-looking HK shovelnose Hydroplane topping-out at a leisurely 75 to 80km/h, depending on wave conditions and wind.... So there's that.. :haha:

Hah. I saw it. Slots aren't exactly my thing. Too small. Too fiddly. Too limited to the track. Basically the same 'problem' as 1/12 pan-cars/f1

Just blurs whizzing around. I'm also a tad too much of a scale-afficionado. I like to see the details. When still racing 1/10 F1 I tended to kit my cars out with faux wing cams, antennae, visors for the helmet, brake lines etc. And then a colourful blur whizzing around @ 110km/h or faster :haha: Oh, and three or four sets of sponge tires each racing weekend, endless tweaking of brushes, springs, winds. Well You know the drill.

Buggies are bigger, brasher, not as fast as slots, or even 1/10 TC, run anywhere without constantly scraping the ground, or getting catapulted by tiiiny pebbles :haha: And I like running around in the muck. :P
The Traxxas funnycar is a bit of an outlier I have to admit. Vèry limited in places to run. Steers like an oil tanker, blows-over as easy as a leaf in a storm....

That's also nice about 1/16 tanks. They are fun to run, even in a tiny 5m by 5m quite unkempt garden.

B.o.t If You want 'fast' (however limited with a tank) without a slot to provide 12/24 v at many amps, there's no other way than going brushless. Take a good browse at hobbyking's offerings in 28xx size motors, and their affordable esc's.

Okay...good luck with that. I've seen someone on YouTube do that with a Bulldog and a Leopard. Watching the suspension work, I'm not sure how long the tracks will last. Metal would last longer, but that would tear up the rest of the plastic suspension. Worth a go, but...
