Managed to finish the overall construction and I really enjoyed the build. The fun part now is going to be painting and weathering.

I added the PE grills as well as aluminum barrel. Driving it around I am really enjoying how the suspension works, driving the dog crazy. I will post some pictures soon.

Here is the finished build, minus the air filter parts as well as the tools.

Like this kit so much I can't decide if I want to do the King Tiger, Panther G, or M51 Sherman next, haha.

Would Vallejo surface primer work with the metal on this kit or should I purchase the Tamiya metal primer? I only ask as I have a few Vallejo primers.

Thank you,
Matt

Matt Hi,
You should always apply "Mr Hobby Metal Primer" first to any metal parts on the Tank and then as it is a German Tank you should use a Red oxide primer before applying a top coat,
Personally after I paint metal primer I then paint "Mr Primer 1,000 Surfacer" over the metal surfaces before painting the Red Oxide on the Tank,
But that's just me. :/
Shaun.

I am guessing but I reckon you will get as many different recommendations as you get replies. Personally, for my Tamiya kits, I have used Halford's products. Grey metal primer for the base coat(Be careful - they also do a grey plastic primer.). For the next coat, their red primer. For the top coats, I have used Tamiya's own paints. I have not had any problems so far.

Which ever way you go, I'd strongly recommend a metal primer for the metal parts. I've used Tamiya Fine Surface Primer on aluminium and white metal before, and while it provides a nice surface, it doesn't last. Any friction or force on the part causes it to chip and flake off, right down to bare metal.

I used metal primer, followed by red oxide primer. Coming along really nice!

Thank you all for the input!
