I'm gonna go with real, maybe doctored up a bit.

The position of the MG suggests weight behind it, rather than a plastic barrel. Maybe if it was a staged propaganda photo, that would explain the body posture of the commander.

I've gotta agree with wibbly, if it's not real, it's a darn good one!

The front fender guards look like they have seen some action, I know this can also be done on models but they just look real, also assuming it was an rc tank it would have to be a tamiya right as the rear last return roller is in the correct lower position not seen on other manufacturers I don't think

Lee in common with most PZ4 builders dropping the rear rollers by 2/3mm is one of the first jobs I do when I begin work. then cutting off the front and rear fenders and fitting replacement hinged fenders and two details so often missed, a reflector on the left hand rear fender and an aiming pointer in front of the front cupola viewing slit, the latter fitting is just visible in the photograph.
Something on the turret roof not usually seen on a model is a Shovel.

Not overly for a photographer who know some tricks, slot car/scalextric collectors have been able to give the illusion of motion with clever rigs and the odd photoshop tricks for quite some time.

I'm going to say a fake as the commander looks too posed and not life like, but I think quite a bit of photoshop trickery has been used in it though.

Yes, but why bother in the first place? I can't see what anybody's trying to prove with this, to be honest. Either it's a tarted up original- and the world's not short of those; or, someone has tried to place his well-executed model into a fantasy battlefield scenario of his own making. Maybe it's a genuine tank cut and pasted onto a Kasserine style backdrop. Only the person who originated it knows, and he (or could be she) is not telling...

I also think it's a well staged fake because the commander doesn't look real.

Hi, I have found a non colorized version of this same picture in the book "Panzers of Kasserine, the Afrika Korps in Tunisia" by Claude Gillono. This tank seems to be part of a column showing similar unit arrangements for tracks and for the spare road wheel in the front. The picture seems to be part of an authentic newsreel. In my views, the other pictures showing the unit in the same location reinforces the authenticity of this single tank.

All I could find were these pages on the web but it would be nice if someone here has the book and could provide more information found by the author.

Mick in all the years of my service I NEVER saw a Radio-Op with his Headphones over both ears,
You always need one ear free to hear sounds other than those coming from the Radio and that is why modern headsets are inserted in one ear only although the full sized two piece headset is available to be screwed into the radio.

You do realise after making that statement, someone, maybe the likes of Herman Bix is going to flood this topic with sh*t loads of pictures showing the opposite lol

Yes Mick and they will almost all be of young trainees learning the hard way that getting up the nose of your Section/platoon/company commander by constantly asking him to say again because you couldn't here him through the headset can be easily solved by slipping one earpiece behind the ear
The other occasion is when you are in the vicinity of ARTILLERY going BANG a lot but you will have other things to worry about in those circumstances
