I'm sure we can all agree that most Tamiya tanks look great, and you get some very well engineered kit for your dosh. I'm not particularly interested in any of their out-of-the-box offerings though, so for me the problem is that I couldn't go butchering a AU$1000 tank. I feel a lot more comfortable kitbashing Trumpeter, Taigen, and Heng Long stuff to get the result I want; I wouldn't be building the SU-152 if the only donor hull I could get was a Tamiya.

RAM Hi, You hit the nail on the head !! I love making MY builds the way I want them to be and I can afford to make the odd cock up when working on a Heng Long or Taigen Tank,
But I would never mess with a Tamiya because the money spent getting one would frighten me from altering it,
So I would end up with a Tank built as well as I could build it and yet it would be identical to all the others,
You only had to look at the Tanks that H W M N B N built to see how important stamping ones own brand on a Tank is, and that was primarily the finish that stood out,
Individuality is important to me and I would suggest the amount of upgrades that are fitted to other peoples Tanks means it is important to others, so Tamiya GREAT,
But No Thanks.

Well what I really want is an IS2, I've built many r/c cars of various scale before, never a tank, but would be comfortable taking it on.

At the moment, Axels is showing zero stock of all Tamiya tank - rough sterling price £690 plus shipping. Banzai has 20% off at present, so £547 plus shipping. Possible VAT to be added on to the latter by HMRC. However they are showing zero stock as well.

If (When !?) I get one it will be the first place I look.

It mainly comes down to personal preference, I started out with the standard Taigen Tiger 1 and have poured several hundred pounds into it to achieve Tamiya levels of performance/precision. I then bought a Tamiya Sherman from a forum member for about 50% of the cost of buying and upgrading the Tiger. That said, I personally don't think I could ever justify buying a new Tamiya, but if you find a good second hand one, snap it up!
