I use vegetable glycerine in all my tanks. No noxious fumes & really cheap. Nice amount of "steam" too

You might want to check the SD card to see what the smoke voltage is set for. If it's set for proportional you may be getting poor output at idle. I had that problem and the only way to get any smoke at all was to run at full throttle. I reset the SD card for 100% smoke at idle and it now works fine.

I run my IBU2'S smokers at 60% at idle.

Cheers for the help, guys. I've got it set to 50%, but even running the tank at full throttle for a few minutes didn't improve things much. I'll have to try to get home from work before dark one day this week, so I can take it outside and try running it with the saddle clamp and a higher MinPwmSmoke value.

I wire the heater direct to battery voltage and just use the ibu connection to power the fan,the idle setting on the memory card is at 50%.
With that set up using mega steam I almost feel it make too much smoke sometimes.

Had some time during the week to check it out. Having the little clamp to hold the wick over the heater made no difference, but running the TARR connected directly to the battery made an improvement; the smoke was still thin but it was at least visible.

I guess that means I have three options going forward. I can:
  • - Hook the heater element directly to the battery and have the IBU power the fan, as Del suggested,
    - Connect the heater element to a voltage step-up as Tao suggested, and have the IBU power the fan,
    - Connect the complete TARR (heater + fan) through the voltage step-up to the IBU, so the step-up modulates the IBU's output.
I can't see any advantages to stepping the fan power up, if anything I expect it'll blow it up. For now I'll try connecting the heater element directly to the battery and if it's still no good, I can splice a voltage step-up in later.

The T-34's in pieces being painted at the moment, but once I've got it all back together I'll give it a try and see how it goes.
