This problem happens sometimes using the Tamiya recoil unit, this because the MFU output doesn't feed much power to the motor.
On the IBU2 and IBU3 the mechanical recoil recoil output was designed to drive the "hungry motor" of Heng Long tanks, so will boost the Tamiya unit.

I did suspect the motor was moving faster by the amount it bounces back from the stop.
The be all and end all fix will be to fit a (resistor or what ever it is) to drop the voltage to the motor slightly.

A 10 Ohm 2 Watts resistor placed is series to the positive line should work and fix the problem
