Looks pretty good for a mistake!

looks ok in the pics but is getting worse lol going to have to repaint, is cracking the paint looks crap in the flesh. o well back to buy some more paint

What's cracking? Must not be seeing it in the pics, I swear it looks fantastic in the pics.

Maybe it is too white for your tank now, but it still looks good.

I would be more than happy to achieve the same results for a winter panzer iv I have

Even my wife says it looks great, and she doesn't like tanks! What does that tell you?

the first pics are fine and did look good for winter frost but the last pic i posted are too white and you cant see the cracks on the pick but it looks s**t lol

i would give some advice on how i done it but i have no clue just used humbrol clear matt varnish and just sprayed it on with the air gun and hay presto it went white lol

Remember it was only another coat of (clear)paint so paint over it WHEN it dry's with another coat of top coat in a WARM room.

Interesting, Shaun, and can you say what would happen if you used a hairdryer gently on the clear coat, immediately after applying it? I've not tried that, and nor have I had the unfortunate experience of putting clear varnish on a camo scheme I'd sweated buckets over, go milky in a cool environment. If this is what you can expect, this is a timely warning to all apprentice daubers. Is there a recommended temperature? It's probably cited in the instructions, I imagine. Problem is, you're exhorted to paint in an environment where you can avoid fumes..and it that's outside, or in a garage, then it's likely to be cooler than the kitchen...or the wife's boudoir ... I have used clear coat for guitar repairs, and where it starts out alarmingly milky, it often dries clear.

All flat (matte) clear coats appear somewhat chalky, especially if applied too thick. Even satin finishes will have a different look. I finish with a coat of Future, decals, more Future, then apply washes, filters and pigments and finally, just dirt from driving around.

If it's a static kit, I may lightly overspray with a flat, but it won't be clear, it'll be a extremely light dusting of a sandy color.

Moisture also causes acrylics to appear milky, but that should clear out when it completely dries, not sure about enamels or laquers because I don't use them. Complete drying means a week or more depending on conditions.

In 25 some odd years of dealing with different paints and airbrushes, I've never had anything go white from temperature. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, just that I've never seen or heard of it. High humidity, yes, temp no.

If it's cracking, it typically means you've sprayed a decreasing sheen, i.e. going from gloss to satin, and it's too thick. That's a technique furniture finishers use for crackle. They go high gloss, paint a flat coat, let it dry and it shrinks and floats on the gloss, then they clear coat to seal.

As to the hair dryer, I in common with many ex soldiers keep my hair close cropped and consequently have never needed to beg, borrow or steal my Lady's incredibly NOISY machine,
I build my Aircraft and Tanks in a partitioned off area of the garage and when it comes to painting I don a face mask and plug in a "Dimplex" space heater and it all works fine drying the paint.
It used to attract one of the cats until it got itself a grey primer undercoat overcoat if you see what I mean.
NOT ON PURPOSE !!
