The IBU2 does support airsoft and recoil. If your using the Taigen airsoft recoil unit you have 3 options

1 – Buy the wiring harness. so is plug and play with IBU2
2 – Mod the wiring, as detailed in the manual V5.2
3 - Remove the Taigen recoil controller and plug the servo directly into the IBU2

Well, having just downloaded and read the latest manual, I sit corrected, Page 7 does indeed detail wiring mods to accommodate the Airsoft recoil system....indicating that at least Bretto Ivano does keep abreast of new developments in RC tank development, unlike Clark, sadly. In addition, if the harness adaptor does give effective P n' P capability, then it's not beyond the scope of the average fingers and thumbs technophobic newbie. But the issue of Airsoft is an interesting one.
Since Heng Long no longer produce tanks with IR, and only with BBs, the options for beginners are quite limited. Notwithstanding the almost hysterical (not... ) obsession with health and safety that puts a downer on Airsoft systems..and most other things the 'ambulance chasers' would love us to use, if you're in the UK...and nowhere near a club (As in the Highlands for example)...IR is a pointless option anyway. Thus, Airsoft is- almost of necessity- the way to go....or even airsoft tanks firing paintballs, would offer decent entertainment When I was a kit we had catapults, cap bombs, bows and arrows (often ones we had made ourselves)..and even peashooters were popular.. but they'd probably be banned now.
Life is no fun when it's sanitised that much... and, well, boys will be boys! (ah, but even that's not so certain these days..)
In the meantime, I shall still await the IBU3, and its refinements with great interest.

Both Ivano and myself are RC tankers long before the IBU series came about, so that is where our interest are, Ivano is the electronics guru and created the IBU. I sell them but been part of two tank clubs I see a lot of people and tanks so I get the questions of how to make things work and have done a lot of customer installs so all that experience gets fed back into the manual and forums to help everyone.

Here is a quick diagram of the airsoft mod I was badly explaining lol



Basically the way the electronics are wired is the + wire is constant 7.2v (there abouts) and the electronics switch the negative. So by adding another wire connected to the battery negative to the motor the airsoft will just constanly run through is cycle and fire. Add in series a normally closed contact switch and mount on side of the airsoft so that when the airsoft is in that primed spot it pushes on the contact switch and open circuits and stops the motor. Then when the electronics sends a fire signal up the normal wire to the motor, the motor starts again just enough to get passed that primed and the bb fires. The fire signal stops but the motor carries on running because it’s getting that constant power from the battery negative wire until the airsoft gets to primed postion and open circuit again ready for the next firing.

Well, definitly the IBU can play sounds much longer than 45 seconds. The biggest son I`ve played so far is 6:30 minutes and is about 8mbs. So the manual is wrong in that part, It can play much bigger sounds than 1mg so that`s a winwin for me :D:D:D:D


I just saw your diagram, Tankbear. That is for the Taigen airsoft+recoil unit, not for fixing the standard airsoft unit, right?


EDIT: I just saw your email. Could you explain a bit better for stupid people like me? lol.

That is for the base airsoft, the airsoft & recoil is basically same airsoft unit with a micro servo glued on the side.

If I get chance tonight I dig through my spares box and take some pictures of a airsoft unit to help explain.

Thank you very much, Ian. That's really great info, and now I'm thinking about this one last Tiger that's still on stock electronics, and since I just got another airsoft recoil unit I guess I'll have to quit dickin' around and buy an IBU2 for it.

As long as I'm here, let me take this opportunity to say that I think the IBU and the Asp are both great boards, and both Ian and Kevin are terrific men that are truly dedicated to our hobby, and they both deserve (and get) my utmost respect. The TK22 can also be very effective and I use it wherever space is a major consideration. I guess my point is, I'm seriously glad to see so many talented and devoted men making this hobby so much better. It's enough to make me start believing that we Tankers really are just better than everybody else!

So that raises a question - if I think I'm better than other people because of the color of my skin that would make me a racist, but what if I think I'm better than other people because I'm an RC Tanker? Does that make me a ...wait for it ... "Tankist"?

Yes, Ian, many thanks for the diagram and detailed response. For my part, I'm not an enterprising person (not an entrepreneur by nature), though I have some expertise in writing and recording music...I've shared with a few friends. However, I really applaud those who add innovation to their hobbies and interests, for the benefit of others...as with IBU and Asp.. That requires a drive some of us lack..
