Good morning,
That's looking good, Arnie! Alpha has the right of it. I left the traverse off due to space considerations. I would have had to mock one up from Taigen components at any rate as my recoil unit came from the Pz III that I used for the lower hull. Following along
regards,

Really considering just filling out the gunshield now and just drilling a new hole for the barrel, leaving the mount by it own. Will still wait till I have a Recoil unit though.
Might pull out the one I have in my Panzer IV, just so I can move along.

On the Good, but not so good side of things, I fixed the 5:1 gearboxes. Took about 5 minutes (way easier than expected!!!), but they wont fit in the plastic hull, unless I remove the two front studs used to connect the lower and upper hull together. Might just get me a set of 4:1 steel gearboxes for a Panzer. Found them at around 40€, so not that big of a budget breaker and then the 5:1's can go in one of my other project.

I am also debating with myself, wether I should clear out the lower hull, as I have seen so many others do, or just leave it as is. If it aint broken, dont fix it right? :)

Have you thought about mounting the traverse (if you choose to use it) upside down? Have the gun free dangle ...then attach the recoil unit to balance the whole thing out...your elevation could be mounted pretty much anywhere in line with that mech ;)

Now clearing out that bucket....I don't usually like to do it as it weakens the plastic hulls a great deal...many do..but my thinking is that they were designed in that manner for a purpose...with the battery box intact the hull is very rigid...without it...there is so much flex...My L70 was a scrap heap P IV ...the guy I got it from had removed the battery box...bad move... as I had to re gusset the whole base line and side of the tub as it was actually starting to cave inwards and warp in indescribable ways  the only redeeming fact was the plastic was flexible enough to make it straight again
I would do it only as a last resort ;)
Painless used a stock Taigen Plastic hull for his Stug build....I'm pretty sure he left his battery box intact :shifty:

Still Watching LOL

I had not considered that! Will definetly try putting it in upside down :)

And yes, those where my exact thoughts about the lower hull. Unless I get into trouble, when putting in the recoil (I dont see why I should), I will leave it as is. There is ofcourse the problem, of water getting in from the battery lid, but I dont plan on going through any lakes or rivers any time soon, so I dont see the point in the "mod"
I have considered putting in an extra wall, between the motors and the rest of the hull. Both to keep the electronics clean, from any lubricants and also to strenghten the hull further. Much like I did on my Pz IV.

Good morning, Gentlemen,
I did indeed leave my battery box in the lower hull. As alpha noted, if it was built with one in place, a lot of extra work will be required not only to remove it neatly but to replace the bracing it afforded. Lower hulls without the box molded in are already braced in other ways. Also, yes, hanging the recoil mechanism from the casemate roof is a great way to get things to line up! ;o)

Painless

Thanks again Painless ...I wasn't sure about that battery box  Getting old ...memory getting bad :haha: :haha:

Arnie...there are many examples of Gearbox covers made to keep the nastys contained...I use wax on my gearboxes so don't need any protection really...hardly any gunk or splatter from that stuff ;)

Keep the info coming guys! Really apreciate all the help I can get with this one :D

Didnt do much today, since I'm missing the main parts, so all I got around to do, was install the ajustable idlers. May need to re-do them, to tighten the tracks a bit though.
The rest of my time today, was spent fixing an otherwise broken smoker and MFU I had lying around...they will go in another project ;)

Otherwise, my evening have been spent looking back and forth between my two shopping carts at Forgebear and Dominique, trying to stop myself from borrowing fro my savings account, so I can just order what I need now :P
