"O" gauge trees would make perfect logs for the sides if you like that look. True "HO" or "N" scale would be too small unless you want branches for cover on top of the deck or turret.
But real wood branches found around trees is free, combine that with the lichen you got at the Hobby shop should do well.

Hi Bluelion,
These are the 2 packs that I currently have, I also use them for 1/35 scale models too, you can tear off small bits and attach it to small branches and it should look pretty convincing, I bought these packs while visiting a model show at which the company from the website I gave you in my other post attended,
Lee.

Thanks again for everyone's input . Lots to think about and some great photos, although I've been addicted to ww2 since being a kid this 1/16 tank thing is all very new to me .
It's my day of and I'm going fishing now so I will keep a good look out for some suitable branches

Have you tried real lichen? I've found it is good enough to represent some foliage that have rounded leaves in elongated bundles.

That's the stuff that Jeff is making. I have to email him today anyway, I'll ask where the project is and if he has stock yet and prices. I'm kinda looking forward to trying these out myself.
Yes, I do believe they are oak leaves and yes, he's shooting for 1/16 scale.

Yeah, Terry, Jeff does great work. He's also working on a TC for the Tamiya sherman that works on an extra channel and his head turns back and forth. He's trying to make it totally plug and play, too.
