I MAY be able to get away with carrying 1 of my black powder revolvers because they aren't legally considered a fire arm rather just a weapon like a knife. But any of them will still do the job of punching large holes in things down range! Match grade, target shooting .44 in either gun blue or stainless steel and up to about 50 meters they'll still hit center mass every shot. Gotta admit BP revolvers are a hell of a lot of fun to shoot!

Alpha, did YOU know that Texas was the 1st state to have gun control laws? After the civil war Texas decided that it may not be a good idea to allow ex slaves to own guns nor ex confederate soldiers so they banned open carry. Funny the state everyone thinks of as a gun friendly state started all the unconstitutional gun law BS!

Never got the gist of Gun Control in the first place...It just never made any sense...you take the guns away from the Good Guys...who then has the guns...the Bad Guys ...Cause they could give a rip where how they got them...Like I said many times ... Criminals or Crazies would think twice if they knew they would get shot back at

Alpha, and THAT is the exact reason gun control never works! Pass laws restrictions guns so those who obey the law leave their guns at home, while the bad guys who don't care about the law and are intent on breaking it now KNOW that only they and the police have guns. The police can't be every where all the time so they know they can do whatever they want to the poor good guys because us good guys obey the law and don't have our guns with us.
Also taking them from everyone like they did in Australia doesn't work either for the same readonly as above. I've read that the Australian police can't even respond to the amount of crime they now have. After they confiscated everyone's guns they started having crime they never had before, home invasion! Cases of armed robery skyrocketed and all types of violent crime. Sure no more "mass shootings" but all other crimes have gone through the roof ! YEAH GUN CONTROL!

Yup...England finally armed their police force over what 20 years ago...after finding that sticks don't stop bulletsjackalope wrote:Alpha, and THAT is the exact reason gun control never works! ALPHA, My hero, I hope you are having /had an enjoyable holiday,
Now as to the arming of British Policemen/women, Recently the Scottish Police force intergrated and became the Scottish Police Service, it previously being separate County forces as the English and Welsh forces still are.
The Scottish Police service is armed,
The PSNI (Police Service of Northern Ireland) has historically always been armed,
The County and Metropoliton Police services of England and Wales Patrol (Beat) Officers are only? armed with a Truncheon, Pepper spray and if the officer is trained in its use a Tazer plus a Police personal radio, (Some forces are equipping officers with Body Cameras) and a stab vest. the Beat officer whether on foot or in what is called in the UK a Panda car ( Usually a small two door family saloon) is Unarmed, Every Police division has on duty 24 hours a day an ARV (Armed Response Vehicle) often a Volvo V80 Wagon crewed by two firearms trained officers, these vehicles are equipped with both Automatic Pistols and Heckler & Koch Sub Machine Guns and will attend any call requiring their unique abilities,
I should add that in general most Police officers have repeatedly asserted that they have no wish to be equipped with a firearm.
There is a separate air wing with each County force equipped with usually two Helicoptor's,
Now .45 versus 9mm, When John Browning left Colts after designing amongst other weapons the 1911 ACP and set up his own company, one of his first designs was the Browning 9mm Hi-Power Automatic Pistol,
His intention was to make a better "ACP" Whether he was successful or not is best illustraited by the worldwide sales to many Armed forces and Police services,
My experience as a left handed shooter found the ACP with its left hand side safety an annoyance and I never cared for its small 7+1 standard magazine although the Muzzle velocity of about 360/370 Metres per second with (for a pistol)a heavy bullet of .45 was impressive,
But the Browning Hi-Power with its ambidextrous safety won me over and a 13 round standard magazine helped, and with a Muzzle velocity of about 350 Metres per second it comes down to stopping power and effective range,
I happen to know the effective range of both guns is approximately 50 metres ( yes I know they will kill some unfortunate on his bicycle a mile and a half away in the next village) we are talking THE EFFECTIVE RANGE.
So my personal choice influenced by many years of carrying and using it, is the Hi-Power but I absolutely understand why many owners and users of the ACP give it such a high rating.
shaun.

Re: Tanker Handguns 2..USA and Russian
Ah, my dear Messrs Jarndice and Jackalope (Hope the Christmas dinner is settling down, by the way!) it wasn't only financial issues that put Colt, the 1911 maker out of business this year, but it was also one of reliability. Colt had already lost the contract for the M4 with the Department of Defense (sic) because
of manufacturing defects, and they'd already been overtaken by the Likes of Glock, and Smith & Wesson, in producing dependable, state-of the- art weaponry. Furthermore, Glocks and SiGs (except the P210) hold more rounds than the 1911; are generally easier to field strip (having fewer fiddly moving parts); and are lighter. In fact, I thought the 1911 was notoriously difficult to reassemble; but then I don't claim to be an expert...just someone recounting personal experience.
Incidentally, while the ambidextrous feature of the hi-power is desirable, 90% of us -roughly- are right handed, and so the arty (it's claimed!) cack-handed members of the human race just have to adapt a wee bit.
As for calibre, the 9mm is roughly equivalent to the 3.57/ .38 in size and is thus not a lot smaller than the .45 ACP. The words that no man wants to hear from his wife/partner; those soothing balm-like words (never heard them personally..but maybe she whispered!).."Bigger is not necessarily better".. has been shown to be true in ballistic tests. The relatively tiny NATO (5.56mm) .223 round, used in the M16/ M4 etc., can cause just as much catastrophic damage to the human body as a .45; simply by fragmenting t.
Had this not been the case, the US Army and others would not have adopted the small, high- velocity format for their assault rifles.
Happy New Year!!..or am I jumping the Gun..
