Here are some things I want to do to the tanks
1. Im going to use magnets to hold the top down to the chassis instead of the screws that are there now. Mainly because im sealing the batter box and water proofing it.
2. I want to relocate the power switch to the top of the tank or on the back. Why they put it on the bottom makes no dang since to me.

Ok here I need advice on some topics please
1. I want to get upgraded batteries for the tanks that are not lipo, which batteries do you guys but to make the tank have a longer run time?

Anything.. brand... mah is better than the stock...since you are doing three get at least 3500 mah to keep things affordable ...use your stock charger and charge each for six hours initial charge...then two when they run down....investment in a speed charger will help in the fun
I have had this one for over ten years...it's a fantastic charger and can be found or ordered from any airsoft shop

it has a 15 min fast charge with adjustable rate meter...can be used hooked up to a 12v car battery for quick charges in the field
when the timer is not in use it will default to an adjusted drip charge
The brand of battery I used to use was Intellect
2. Is the 2.4 controller and electronics good enough for these tanks?

The gen that you should have is plenty good enough....I haven't had to change mine...and in most of my 16 HL tanks I run the 2nd gen units...I'm pretty sure yours is the new 3rd gen that was included with my M1...that unit is even better than the 2nd gen
3. I want to cut the wire that makes the tank kick back when fired because that sudden jerk wears the gears and motors. Which wire is it?

You don't really have to cut any wires ...just find the wire that connects to the RX and disconnect it....one drawback is you will loose the firing sound as well
4. Where is the best place for metal parts or aftermarket addons for the tank?

For the Sherman?...EBAY...since there is a larger variety of shops ...if you are in the UK...Forgebear...He's a member and an EBAY vendor...fast friendly and probably the most informed supplier there is IMO
If you are in the US...there are several individual shops...just google them...see who can and will answer questions with ease and go with them
Good Luck

An added note...get at least one of these for your stock drip chargers....plug a power strip to it so you can charge all the batteries at the same time

This will eliminate having the watch the clock as it will shut everything off at the set time...any brand is good...the timing is excellent as well as there are a lot of folks who use them for Christmas lighting

Happy Tanking
