Been meaning to ask.............the waffle pattern on the turret armour ?
Is that a modern form of Zimmerit or its ceramic equivalent ?

Well blow me dry & call me dusty..................I've learnt something 8O 8O

I summise the rubberised coating is an effort in reducing the I.R. or thermal signature, and perhaps the magnetics.
The looks of the turret armour panels suggests stand off sacrificial plates designed to defeat HESH or rocket delivered hollow charge rounds.
The mudguard application of the dimpled rubber would only be any use in the signature reduction really.

I bet there will be clarity coming any time soon eh ;)

Huh !........a bare turret
Variations & developments I get, but not to retro-fit older machines with up to(then) date armour ? :wtf: :wtf:

Hey Paul, are you still thinking of adding recoil? Great build so far!

Hi Herman, The turret's side armour is "waffled" due to the reinforcing the LEXON panels with heavy wire mesh, giving the armour a"dimpled" look. This came from my friend who served in the Leopard 1 as a tank commander.
