I seem to recall that Heng Long are dropping the IR option on their tanks, so it will be BB's only. They have a whole range of tanks, and they are all good runners, with cheap replacement parts, and a million upgrades available if you take that route.

Nicest runners that I have owned from the range are the Bulldog, Panzer III, and Sherman, but none of them are going to cause problems.

For a 5 year old I would choose something with a short barrel, as they will be less likely to ram it into immoveable objects. :/ I would also budget for quailty batteries and a charger, as the HL ones only last a short while before they need a recharge.

Hi Mick
I don't know when your looking to buy your tanks. But I see that your from Leicester, I'm from Grantham (about 45minutes drive) and we have a club meet 1st sunday of each month. (look under Grantham Light Armoured Division in the Events Days out Section of this forum) our next meet is December 6th.
If you want to come along and have a look we have a fairly good selection of Heng long tanks owned by various members that you are welcome to come and look at/try to help you make your decision which to buy.

Sorry my fault just had a dyslexis moment your not from Leicester but up north in Newcastle. The offer still stands to visit but I think the Manchester club is nearer to you. My own personal favourites are the Sherman and the Panzer 111 both have never let me down and with the short barrels means less things to get caught when driving around the garden.

2nd what hawkeye3guns says.

Both M4 and PzIII are great out of the box and pretty much trouble free. The short barrels also mean the BB guns are a bit stronger.

You'll need to get some good quality BB's as the ones that come with the tanks are junk and may give you no end of problems.

The other thing to consider is the radio gear. If you can get the 2.4 GHz models you won't have any risk of interference from other kids.

Just to be a pain for a minute, as more and more r/c Tank hobbyists adopt 2.4 digital transmitter/receivers the fewer there are using crystal based radio's, so the amount of cross feed interference is getting ever less likely. :lolno:

Gary and all the newer members of the Forum in case you don't know, one of the reasons your costs when buying from a dealer in the European Union are so high is because you may well be getting charged Value added tax (VAT).
I suggest in future when ordering from an EU dealer you tell them that as a Resident of the USA, you are not liable and would they please remove it,
Most dealers do remove it as soon as they know where you are from but some need to be told.
