I think you are spot on at 2mm. I made a rough template out of card after measuring the turret, I made it about 150mm inside diameter with a 155mm o/s diameter at a depth of about 2mm. Dont take this as gospel though, I would want the plans scaled up to make sure the sizes. Unfortunatley, I cant find a scale size for the depth of the ring, though any type of clearence on the model is limited to 2mm depth ?
I think ?

I think Tamiya really missed the boat with not bringing out their own upgrade (or should that be downgrade) kit to give their Sherman  VVSS suspenion with matching narrow tracks and drive sprokett. Actually with the increased interest in 1/16th R/c tanks since HL hit the market they probably couldve released an early version of the Sherman with VVSS, cast hull and early turret years ago and cashed in on it.

With those two Shermans we could mix and match the old and new tank parts to make most varients of M4, or at least get 90% there with good quality Tamiya parts and they would still own the market as far as the Sherman goes.

Cant see them selling many more HVSS Shermans @ £400+ once these Mato VVSS ones come out.

Did anyone here actually want a Sherman with VHSS?

I would like to see late p4 sprockets and idlers for the heng long as well as metal wheels for the jagdpanther that dosnt cost more than the tank.

Crispy, IMHO the Sherman looks a lot better with HVSS than VVSS and also looks better with the welded upper hull than the cast version, but then hey that is my opinion.

but then Tamiya should have made both versions of the tank.

I added the turret ring to my Tiger a few yeas back which I scaled down from drawings and the turret ring I have on my own 1/6 Tiger, I used plasti card cut the outer diameter trued that up then cut the inside diameter, I was asked this question a few weeks back on RCU and can supply details if you like

Hi Guys to me the Sherman should look like the classic it is that means vvss suspension as for the hull cast or welded both is better ,I made a post a while ago about Tamiya Sherman how could they get it so wrong ,apprently they used a Koreian war tank for there measurements .O.K its accurate but they made the first tank in the early seventys and have done upgrades along the way , they have made a decent proffit from this tank and should have spent some of it on better upgrades different hulls and suspension .Im affaid they have now missed the bus the new one comming from China will show this .

regards pete

Agreed Brel, i dont like the cast hull either but there was a lot of them about and theres no accounting for taste ;). Most WW2 varients of the Sherman have the VVSS running gear and from what i've seen it takes a hell of a lot of work to get the Tamiya HVSS Sherman looking like a WW2 VVSS equipped tank. Theres a lot of Firefly conversions out there that are crying out for it. If Tamiya sold an all in one kit with the correct VVSS suspension/track/sproketts etc they would've made muchos £$£$£$£$£$£$£$ without having to do the full R&D on a whole new tank ::)
