I have heard they are abit crap ed, and I think they only work with the Tamiya DMD units

Kaiser that could work! Lucky I have not installed the servo rotation yet! I may have to give that ago! Now just need to sort the elevation!

I am going to try Kevin's turret locking as I got all the bits I think. Geko from him and GA250 from HobbyKing.

To be fair Michael the Clark board looks good but I it also looks like it involves a massive about of rewiring/ soldering and am already running am IBU2 do looks like the GEKO could be the answer, I have emailed the guys at rctanks Australia to see if the GEKO will work in my setup, fingers crossed it will! Lets us know how you get on with it Michael and what you did/ used with pictures as am dumb! Cheers for all your info though guys, your all a great help as always! Will try get some pictures of my Leo up soon and what I have been doing to it!

hi guys after reading all the posts & replys on this subject it sounds simpler to buy one of the newer tanks with the built in leveller I read about somewhere on this site .tanker 242

Just had a quick email exchange with Kevin (RCTA) after this thread has started. He told me that Geko/GA250 will work but unless the rotation speed is fast enough, you won't get much effect. My understanding is that Geko is basically a dual input EMC, so if you are already on servo rotation (Like I did) then you really just need the GA250 to control the servo. All of my moderns are on servo elevation and rotation, so I will definitely give it a go with the servo rotation and GA250 and see what happens. My take on vertical stabilization is that it looks really cool in real life, but with the limited elevation on our tanks and the terrain we played in, I am not too sure if it is worth it. On the otherhand, with horizontal tracking, we can certainly do the "donut business" and have the turret stay in one place which already look pretty cool too, not too mention during battle you point you barrel and it stays on the target once lock on !Kiaser wrote:All about experimenting if you could Michaelc report back after you try it.
sponge, I wouldn't bother with the Tk-22G2 if you are already on IBU2. I am all Clark and even I didn't want to attempt it as it seems way too complicated both in terms of installation and programming. I would be really happy if I can get GA-250 going with a simple servo rotation install.

Yeah I could probably live with out the elevation stabilization to be fair, if its just a case of plugging in a GA250 gyro I will be more than happy, I have done the BB motor mod in the rotation gear, but I had my suspicions it would not be quick enough as the turret ring is just so large, well let us know how you get in Michael, I might just get the GEKO anyway for a bit of experimenting as I can always chuck it in another tank!

Just a quick progress report. I cracked open my parts bag for this and indeed I do have a Geko (an older version I think with leads rather than plugs for the motor connections) as well as a GA250 which I got from HobbyKing, the intention was to emulate the turret locking as shown on the video by RCTA. Since I have already converted to servo rotation as I figured I do not need the Geko as an EMC. I plugged the red plug (female 3 pin servo plug) from the GA250 into a channel which is programmed for -100% switching, and plugged the servo into the GA250 (a male 3 pin servo plug), then plug the black plug (female 3 pin servo plug) from the GA250 into the channel where the rotation servo is mapped to originally. Basically you need two channels from your receiver for the GA250, one to switch it on and off (for the actual locking), and one for the rotational signal for the servo.
As I didn't have much time last night basically just dry fitting and making sure the connection is right, I already managed to turn the GA250 on and off, when turn off servo signal is a pass thru (Non locking), but when it is turn on, I get a reverse servo signal when I move the GA250 in opposite direction which is exactly what you want. HOWEVER, the servo doesn't stop when I stop moving the GA250. My guess is that this is a pretty crude set-up so there could be some calibration issue. Also, my simulation is actually opposite of the proper setup (the GA250 should be the one that is stationary).
I will install it properly today and see if it works the way it should but it is quite encouraging.
