I have a nice metal pair I would like to fit to it......but kinda want to keep fairly accurate with the tank also :)
Cheers

The turret smoke launchers and hull grenade launchers were discontinued early/ mid '43 and they only started to apply Zim in December '43. The steel wheels were added early '44.

Yes, that would be an amazing find.
But, it's much more likely that an old Early Tiger was given steel wheels because its old wheels wore out and there were no spares.
What does the cupola look like?

Does that prove the smoke was launched from Tiger 1?
In fact, were there any Tiger 1 in the Ardennes battle?

You could have a mid production tank that's a mix of early and late parts but jeman did say "but kinda want to keep fairly accurate" so I was pointing out that you won't get a Tiger with smoke launchers and factory applied Zim.

At the end of the day it's his tank and he can do what he want's.

But it still wouldn't have smoke launchers.

That could happen if, as I said, an old Early Tiger was upgraded with Zim and steel wheels. But it wouldn't be called a "late" even then.

Wouldn't they just remove the launchers before they applied the zim?

It's been a while since I built my Tiger but I remember looking for a pic of a Tiger that had smoke launchers and zim and not finding any. I found pics of Tigers that had the smoke launchers removed and I've seen steel wheeled tigers with early copulas but none with the launchers and zim.

I remember because I wanted to know how they applied the zim around the launchers.

You're right. I found an example.

I concur. That is an Early Tiger in the video.

Unless the footage has references proving it's something or can be cross referenced with something that does have a credible date then it's nearly impossible to say. For instance those lined up Tiger 2's are probably 506 and 503 Tiger 2's filmed in September at Paderborn. However the later shot where you see 222 is probably in the Ardennes.

I've seen that before and to me it looks like random clips from all over the place but I'm no expert. But I see how someone could get things mixed up its not that hard really.

Now it is possible that there was 1 or maybe 2 Tigers that were modified in the field and no pictures were taken of it and it had zim, late road wheels AND smoke launchers? I don't think its impossible. Bottom line is its your tank if you want to mount smoke launchers on it then by all means commander you go right ahead and mount them! Rivet counting is fine and has its place but so then do paper panzers and mods that we want to do to make a tank look good to those who own it.
