I jokingly asked the ranger if it would be OK to bring a 1/4 scale R/C tank in and he said yes so long as I don't shoot anyone.

Sounds like someone on a power trip to me. Glad you got it resolved. The only things I can ever see complaints about these tank are:
1: too loud. So turn it down
2: bb's being fired at people. make sure its unloaded
3: radio interferance. unlikely though
4: buzzing round too close to people. I wouldnt want to risk someone standing on it.
If you are just driving round, there is little harm or reason for complaint.

Parks are free here in Ohio. Frankly, I have never heard of being charged to enter one until today...

Next time take a 1/5 petrol RC car like a Baja 5 and see what reaction that gets with them!

i just read your post on rctankregiment and wondered what state you were, so now i see - you're in Maryland. I have noticed "they" whoever they are, are infesting a few states at a time turning them into prison states i.e. laws against almost everything and fines for everything else.
this is really not what i had in mind for a comment on an RC tank site that is all about a fun hobby, but maybe my opinion on exactly WHY this would even happen might help others in understanding it. Sounds like a case of idiot given a little power and promptly abusing it. But then that almost never happens in the USA anymore after all.

MARC you should come to England, we even have a name for these people "JOBSWORTH" It means that they will tell you not to do something because it is more than their JOB IS WORTH!
It came from a TV consumer show who did a reveal on these people,
Don't you just love the English language ever adaptable.

Here is Missouri Some of the state parks there is a small fee, but mainly ones that you can use ATV's on. All the other city and county parks are free.
BUT....we have been fighting with our county all summer because of the park rangers kicking us out of the parks with our RC Crawlers. The too are just plain A-Holes about the whole ordeal.

Quite an interesting tale. One Control Freak, and a not very bright one, they never are, and the law of common sense. If there is one thing that gets up my nose big time its those silly 'little people' who have about six brain cells on a good day, and who think that because they have a badge of some description they can bully others. You did exactly what I would have done, except I would have just told him to take a hike and driven off, sure as hell wouldn't bother adopting the victim status in the conversation, as that gives them the power that they crave.
Yup, all public parks are free here in the UK, only privately owned parks charge, and that's because its a business rather than a service. Even used the local school playing fields on weekends, flying drones, heli's, planes, nitro trucks, electric trucks and tanks, and no one bats an eyelid. No such thing here as a Ranger, might see someone sweeping up leaves though, lol.
