Good Morning,
On the KV-2 'Crackerbox Palace', the speaker is mounted up front under the driver's hatch. Sound is noticeably fuller when I prop open the hatch with a figure and run with it open.
regards,
Painless

Which is why I said to make the box ported and to have that port open to an engine grill so the sound can escape from there.

Basicly when you put a speaker in a sealed box all the sound waves are forced to go out the speakers face. Ian your Tiger's turret speaker would love a small box built around it to seal the back side so all the sound would go outward thru the hatch rather then bounce around inside of the turret. Come to think of it if you were to just seal up the turret THAT would be the speaker box! :haha:

When you build a ported box any sound that comes off the back side of the speaker is directed thru the port, think of it as using both sides of the speaker to make sound as opposed to just one side. AT least this is how it was explained to me by an award winning car audio shops custom speaker box builder. If you like I could ask him what he would think would be the best options for our tanks but I'm sure ported will be especially with how small the speakers are.

I'd have to see the inside of the KV-2 but I'm sure I could come up with something for it as well. Off the top of my head, build a sealed box and then place another box over the speakers face so you no longer see the speaker at all. Open a port on both sides and install a port on either side firing toward the engines grills and use a tube to connect the ports to under the grills running them the length of the tank.Make sure the box is 100% sealed and the inside of the box and tubes are smooth, keep the diameter of the tubes as large as possible and the sound will be piped from the front, to the back and out thru the engine grills. I'll guess a 1 inch tube to start with but it may need to be tweaked.

Easiest way to think about this would be the exhaust system on you car with the muffler removed. The sound from your engine travels thru the exhaust pipe to the rear of the vehicle and TA DA engine sounds like its at your rear bumper when it under the hood.

OK so far I've found out that the speakers from Tankbear can't fit in a King Tigers turret without replacing the elavarion motor with a steering servo and I'm not sure I want to do that or not. So for the time being I opened up a H/L speaker and used double sided tape to secure it to the inside of the turret directly behind the knight on the right side and removed the plastic from under the loaders hatch. It sounds pretty good but I am considerin adding a 2nd H/L speaker to the other side of the turret. Being these are 8 ohm speakers I can wire them together to make a 4 ohm load and the amp will work perfectly.

As for the engines speaker so far I've found that a proper ported box or sealed box only make it sound marginally better. Right now I'm trying out having 1 whole side open as the port which turns the box into a megaphone of sorts and seems to make the bass more pronounced as its making the 2 inch speaker act like a 4 or 5 inchspeaker. The speaker is aimed straight towards the radiator grills and the open side faces inward toward the smoker. Not sure if I'm happy with it yet more experimenting is still needed. I'll let you know what I figure out.

Not sure how to get them off my phone and my laptop won't accept a memory card for some reason. :( I've tried emailing the pics to my email account but once I get them there I can't get them into a folder that any picture hosting site can use.

I'll try my wife's camera and see if that'll work but I don't know where she has it put.

Which is why you don't see any pics from me except the few my daughter was able to figure out how to post. :haha:

Hi Jack hope the Easter bunny is bringing you lots of Easter eggs?
I tried the Visaton speaker in the Turret of my Tiger 1 and it left me with a problem, :problem:
This Tiger is an Airsoft and to get the speaker to fit would mean removing the ammo hopper, which would takeaway half the support for the main gun on one side, instead I have decided to keep the Airsoft and stripping down two old TAIGEN Speakers and using just the pre-drilled BASE of these two speaker boxes I have put one on the original speaker mounting adjacent to the smoker (The Visaton Speakers fit within the TAIGEN Bases perfectly)and built a speaker enclosure around three sides,
I have placed the other Visaton speaker on the other TAIGEN speaker base immediately behind the gearbox bulkhead in a similar manner to the first speaker but on the other side of the hull and boxed that in,
I am hoping that the gearbox bulkhead I installed will muffle some of the noise from the gearbox,
The speaker is almost exactly under the Turret so hopefully will do a similar job to being in the turret, I have yet to fit the recently upgraded IBU2 Pro so I cannot tell how good bad or indifferent this arrangement will be.    shaun
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Try taking the Taigen speaker box apart and use JUST the Taigen speaker in the turret. This is what I had to do as my King Tiger is also a BB version and the speaker from Tankbear is too big to fit into the KT turret. The Taigen speaker sounds pretty good in the turret.

Sorry you guys are having trouble with the turret speaker.

Now I think about it my tiger turret is quite empty. I got rid of the elevation (been IR tank need it level to hit other tanks) the the recoil is stripped down to a servo.

Oh its no problem just a little tighter then I thought it would be in there is all. I COULD fit your speaker in if I changed the elevation motor to a high torque steering servo and used mounted it so a steering horn would contact the same spot the elevation motor does but I'm happy to use the Taigen speaker or perhaps 2 Taigen speakers for now as it sounds good to me.
