Excellent build I might go for the resin one off An bri on cost grounds alone but the metal looks awesome. Nice job

That didn't come up when I was looking but at less than half the price of the Asiatam it looks very good value for money.edpanzer wrote:http://www.an-bri-rc-modellbau.de/epage ... ucts/Ubstu

Re: So it begins...Toro Tiger 1 Kit + Asiatam Sturmtiger
This doesn't really qualify for a build update but I wanted to show off my new toy, a Proxxon TG125/E Sander
I've been trying to think of an easy way to make more conical bolts for the front and sides and this was the perfect excuse I needed to buy the sander. I've had my eye on one for a while and at £101.00 delivered it wasn't cheap, but buying it from amazon.de (Germany) saved me nearly eighty quid compared to buying it here in the UK.
When it arrived (took just 3 days) it was a cinch to knock up 25 new conical bolts using a 5mm brass rod. I just tilted the sander table to 45 degrees, sanded a point on the end of the rod and then cut it off with my Dremel (I made a wooden template to allow me to accurately place the rod in the vice to keep the cut height consistent).
The main gun required quite a clean-up. Its movement was very stiff so I stripped it down and sanded the movement smooth and now it moves freely left/right, up/down. I now need to work out how best to fix a couple of servos to control it
I have also primed the lower hull so next step is to paint that, weather it (a bit) and get the running gear on.

Re: So it begins...Toro Tiger 1 Kit + Asiatam Sturmtiger
The IBU2 Pro arrived last week so I decided I needed to stop work on the casemate and get the lower hull semi-finished to test the electronics.
The first headache was working out how to make everything fit around those 2 big Visaton FRS7's and at the same time make sure they were firing the sound up through the upper hull grills.
This is what I knocked up using a leftover ABS box section from my conservatory build a few years ago (I knew there was a reason I kept it).
I glued 4 x M3 Rivnuts (using CA) to the upper hull to mount the speaker assembly as shown (I tested the CA hold strength on a piece of scrap and the plastic broke, not the bond, so I'm confident this will hold)
I'm quite pleased with the end result, the speakers fire up through the top hull grills, the MKI smoker fits neatly underneath and the two volume controls are in a nice easy to access position.
Next was to mount the IBU2 Pro and battery. I cut another slot for the battery velcro (so I can mount the battery sideways) and used some more M3 Rivnut's to secure the IBU2 Pro.
Here's a short video showing the "Beast" Coming to life. I was pleasantly surprised at how loud those FRS 7's are when used with the TPA 6W IBU2 amplifier and the TARR MKI smoker never fails to impress.
It should have been a moving test run but I realised that although rctank.de swapped out the Torro Tiger kit early wheel set for late wheel set they didn't change the tracks, so I've ordered a set of late Tiger tracks from WelshDragon to remedy that.

Nice Sound and impressive layout, very clever. And durable be the looks of it (-:
Are you planning a solution for a cover over the gearboxes? My Sturm Tiger is taking in sand trough the huge gaps above the drive sprockets.
Keep up the good work.
Regards.

Re: Toro Tiger 1 Kit + Asiatam SturmTiger Build
I've been a bit naughty and jumped ahead without fully documenting things (sorry) but I've mostly been tidying up and preparing it for paint and finally been able to test the whole thing running (minus gun servos).
One issue I had to fix was the main gun elevation. Its supposed to elevate up to 80 degrees but the rear of the gun stopped it well short (it hit the drive motors) but a bit of filing to aid clearance solved that problem.
I'm still working on the servos to control vertical and horizontal gun movement but I think I have a solution for that worked out now.
This is the electronics in its final configuration...
And the first full power-up test run...
One thing thats holding me up is trying the simulate weld lines in this scale. If anyone can chip in with some useful tips I'd appreciate it
