Thank you everyone for the nice welcome
I've had a bit of a disappointing day because although my IBU2 arrived I spent all afternoon trying to get it working in my Tiger 1 (with lots of help from Ian) it looks like I have a duff unit that might have to go back

On a positive note I think I've found a solution to my first RC Tank self-build. I'm going to buy the Tiger 1 kit and Asaitam STURMTIGER upper hull from rctank.de. Total cost is €474.00 ( about£350.00) so not too bad.

It's a small world. Do you know any local model shops that sell RC Tank goodies? I like to support local businesses where possible.

The only shop that I know of locally is the Ramsgate model shop opposite waitrose in Queen street. I bought a radio set off him but I really don't know what else he has - the place looks like a very run down version of what the previous owner built up. For static kits - I'd say I've got more than he has which is disappointing.
Do you know of any model shops near to us ?

Other than the one you mentioned no.
I guess its difficult for shops to compete against the Internet sellers. I'm as guilty as most and although I prefer to buy locally I can't ignore large price differences and stock levels and find browsing extensive product lines on my iPad from the comfort of my armchair and ordering with a click very compelling, especially when an item ordered from Germany takes just 3 days to arrive any shop has a real battle on its hands.

Very true. The only other local one I used to frequent was in Canterbury but I haven't been able to find that lately when I visit.
I've just thought of another one - Bybrook Barn at Ashford. That's quite a decent shop there but I don't know off hand if they have any tank stuff. I remember seeing a Tamiya 1/16 King Tiger on the shelf many years ago and thinking "one day....it will be mine"
Haven't been over there for a while so I would check first if you're thinking of having a look.
