Always something new to learn. Don't forget David is a resident expert when it comes to Tigers. He'll pick out things your average modeller would overlook or just not know about.

Actually those are the right periscopes for the KT cupola. FYI you could change them out if they got damaged. Crews kept a couple of spares in the turret. There is actually a German training film showing the tank commander replacing one after the previous one took a shell splinter...

Can either of you show us any evidence of a KT periscope looking like that?
I've got a French diagram of the thing, and it looks very different.

Hey David,

I hope we are comparing apples to apples. As I mentioned here is the training film of the tank commander changing out his damaged periscope. I will note that he is driving a Panther but the cupola periscope design is the same Panther and Tiger II. Go to 3:20 in the film...

Let me know if this will not suffice and I will pull out my schematics tonight...

Here is a shot I had in my files of the KT at the Aberdeen proving ground that was cut open for training. You can see the mounts pretty much match those in the movie...

Yes, dgsselkirk, I agree with all of that. That's the same periscope design that I have here for the King Tiger.
It's double-tapered at both ends and has flat sides. Therefore it doesn't closely resemble the RCTANK parts, which are single-tapered and have items molded onto the sides.

Further evidence of how much further ahead of me all of you are when it comes to details. I couldn't tell anything from that video as to what the model version should look like! :( Sometimes I wonder if this is the proper hobby for me.

My apologies, I didn't realize that we were going to look for that much detail. You have totally lost me David on the tapering thing. I am old and the grey matter doesn't function the way it used to. I should have been clearer too that the portion you can actually see from outside the tank is I believe correct. Since I don't have interiors on mine I really couldn't care less what's below the waterline so to speak. This is why they are pretty easy to scratch build if you just want the visible portion. Or am I completely wrong again! LOL!

I would like to see the diagrams you are speaking of David just out of curiosity please..:-)
