tiger tank noob help

Hallo again, TOMHUGILL is the man to talk to about TAMIYA's but I can tell you that the TAMIYA kits are accompanied by brilliant fail safe instructions the kit is not easy but is well within the ability of anyone who has built other r/c stuff, they do not fire BBs and your £570 is not going to get you a complete 1/16 TIGER 1 the electronics are extra as is the radio gear, many people try to get hold of a built TAMIYA TIGER from E-BAY but you are in a market place in which the sharks are constantly circling so please be aware. shaun

If you shop around on eBay you can get a Tamiya Tiger for £400 and the radio for around 50. Ask your n here if you're wary about the seller but it's often cheaper to get one from Singapore or Hong Kong.

There is a sub forum for the Tamiya Tiger where you can get an idea of what is needed to build one. The instructions are straight forward. Probably the only thing to not do is glue the turret roof on.

Just to drop a note in and add a Welcome to the Forum!,
Taigen's Tiger1 is available as a mostly metal 3-in-1 kit that you can build as a static or airsoft or IR version of the tank. The kit is pricey tho' at some 500.00 US and the instructions are nowhere near as detailed as the Tamiya. You would need to have futzed around with HL and Taigen rtr Tiger tanks to be able to successfully do this kit I think. There is a fair bit of metal work and soldering to do. Good luck and pictures, please, of whatever you do get to have fun with.

so how much more is the tamiya going to cost to complete?
is it worth buying a pre owened tank?

There is no difference that I have seen in my kit from the rtr Taigen Tiger other than you have the parts to build three versions of the same tank. looks nice but it would be worth getting the tamiya tiger as im told its of better quality?

Ironcross, apart from the cost of the tank, the additional cost is the transmitter and receiver, 7.2v battery and charger. Of cause if you paint it then add in the cost of paints. I'd read some of the Tiger 1 build threads in the Tamiya section prior to making any decsions though.

Billpe has excellent advice. Read up on some of the builds. Note that if you decide on the Taigen, it comes with a lot of the metal parts and is of good quality. You will need to provide your own electronics and be handy in either painting or removing the molded on tools on the upper hull. If you go with the Tamiya, it is of excellent quality and is mostly plastic and will need a few add-on parts to do a thoroughly detailed version. It's six of one and a half dozen of the other. ;o) Enjoy and have fun with whatever you get.

Hello and welcome! To me the more metal you can get the better, but thats just cause I tend to think my tanks are real at times. Tamiya makes outstanding models, always has and probly always will but from what I've read they use model kit type plastic which I know me and how I run my tanks I'm sure I'd break something. But I gotta tell you if I wasn't so rough on my tanks I'd go with Tamiya.

It doesn't break, at least the parts that you need to worry about. All tanks will have parts break off if you smash them about, usually PE parts. The hull of the Tiger 1 from Tamiya is 6061 grade aluminium, as are the fixtures and suspension mountings in the lower hull, which sits inside a styrene outer forming a two layer rigid box. It's actually stronger with less flex than the ABS with metal insert Taigan because of the overall design is better. It's easier to make water tight as well as there are no gaps where the top and bottom of the hull meet like the HL copies. The Tammy Leopard 2 is nearly all ABS and nylon on the lower half but that tank is extremely tough.

You can safely argue that other King Tigers, Panthers and Shermans are equal, in some cases better (except the electronics) than the Tamiya but when it comes to the Tiger 1 there really isn't a comparison to be had.
