Never noticed that in my Voyager kits. I'll have to take another good look!

Great pic David, I see the Bov Tiger looks like they are missing the loops and just the mounts remain.

I'm not sure what you mean. I know of something that you might call a cut-out, but it wouldn't be on an Early.
Can you find a photo anywhere?

Hey David these cut outs where the tow cables are, was it just a late model thing? Was considering doing it to my late model tiger, but could of sworn I had seen it on an early/ mid somewhere

I've never taken a god look at the Saumur Tiger. Odd in itself! I see what you mean about the tow area "cut outs."

Funny too, looks like it has the factory/travel skinny tracks. God that looks terrible! A Tiger with skinny tracks? :haha:

It has weird fenders too!

Here's a better look at that front area.

Compare to the Early Tiger's tow hook area: http://harveyblackauthor.files.wordpres ... nk-016.jpg

Good evening,
Looks like the French may have created matching front fenders to fit the transport tracks to replace lost ones or altered the originals by removing the fold up sections. I can offer nothing but possible conjecture not having seen this Tiger in person. Any records of it's capture may offer more including why it has transport tracks on it? I do remember seen other photos of Tigers without the front scallop like the Bovington Tiger and others with them like this one. A year of manufacture thing?
regards,
Painless

The cutouts started appearing on the very last of the Mid Tigers, but you can find some of the first Late Tigers without them.

The fenders on the Saumur Tiger are not original. Museum vehicles often have "restored" parts that don't really resemble the originals.

if they're not in the voyager set, go to the Aber website and search for the Aber complete set. You can download the PDF instructions from that page and see how they're made and the positioning. Might help make some scratch built rings.

Thanks for the tip Billpe.

Another thing I noticed too. The Bov Tiger has different tow loop "bolts." It has huge nuts on each side of the loop shaft while the later tiger has much more slimmed down bolts (or whatever they are).

I wonder if that MG42 AA gun is original? Something tells me it isn't as well.

Funny how someone could "restore" a real Tiger and screw it up. I couldn't even let a mistake like that sit on my model Tiger, forget a real one! It would keep me up at night, lol.

Tigers did not carry the MG42.

The bolts on the tow shackles are not originals on either of these museum Tigers. In fact I doubt that the tow shackles themselves are real. The Saumur Tiger didn't have any just a few years ago.

Figured. In my research I only saw the MG34s with the Armored Barrel. (Which are already very rare to find anyway.)

Good note about the shackles then, did not know that. I just went looking for pictures of the shackles. Looks like ones I have in 1/16 are close to the originals. I'll do pictures when I can in my build thread.

The "bolts" are much smaller originally than the Bov Tiger's which look massive. They look so large on the bov Tiger there is little clearance from the running gear actually.

Funny enough about 1/3rd the Tiger pictures I saw had no shackles on them at all! It sure is fun learning this stuff.
