Tracks on the turret

The track holders were installed from April 1943 and never went away. There was a pin to hold the bottom of each link, and a folding flap at the top.
There were 5 links on the left side. At first they wanted 4 links on the right hand side, but they quickly dropped to 3 and then 2 because they simply couldn't open the engine hatch.

Interesting stuff...thought they went with less on the right side because it blocked the loaders hatch....guess they didn't think much about the gun port on the left side..as they totally covered that ;)

I'm not sure which port you are thinking of, but I can assure you it was never blocked by tracks.

That port existed only on turrets with the high cupola.

When the new turret design came in, a much smaller port was used; but soon it was completely deleted.

Neither the large nor the small port was blocked by the spare tracks.
