Jake Hi, If you can afford TAMIYA and you wish only to put them in a bookcase then fine, BUT if you buy a Tank with the intention of building it to your own plan, whether that is simply a new paint scheme or a complete rebuild it would make sense to buy a HENG LONG/TAIGEN/TORRO Tank because if during your build you plunge your dremel a little to firmly into the bowels of your Tank, parts are readily available at a fair price from WELSH DRAGON or FORGEBEAR whereas doing the same to a TAMIYA would entail a visit to JASONs at TAMIYA prices, the pleasure of the build and the subsequent originality is my reason for being in this hobby, ITs MINE ALL MINE and nobody will ever be able to produce another exactly the same, no not even me.

By the way Jake....Have you considered just upgrading in Scale? like trying out 1/6th.... they got some nice tanks in that scale...a lot not found in 1/16....the cost of one... would be about the same as one or two Tamiyas...but way more impressive

I was reading a build the other day and the chap recommended this vendor. .banzaihobby.com
some prices.
M51,Super Sherman $573=£343
JS-2, $726=432
Jagd Panther/Panther G, $674=£403
All with radio gear, not too bad....
From what I could work out postage to the UK was around £50
1/6 Alpha I haven't built a 1/16 yet....

All understood Shaun, ALL MINE....I've bought eight tanks with one on the way from a member, I've only been tanking four months, buying Tamiya's would slow me down and bring me to the other side of the hobby the build, and like shaun says more personal..

say what? too many tanks? How can that be I don't even have a divison yet. Seriously I only have 14 of them. Not a great number by any standard.
As for being a one branded guy, well why limit yourself to a single brand? At one time Tamiya may have been king of the hill but that is questionable now. With all the new releases we have seen and the new ones still not out why stick with a single brand? each brand has stuff the others don't have.
The stuff coming out is just getting started as the war for our wallets is heating up. Hang on because the next 12 to 15 months is going to blow the last year out of the water. As long as we have the lower cost buildable HL bread and butter we will get more and more people in this hobby. So don't limit yourself just yet.
here is what I know is coming

sorry, I have been sworn to secrecy

Yeah I remember that build...the guy with the JS 2 right?

....thing about getting Tamiyas here in the mail... you run the risk of having to pay a customs fee...not sure what it would be...but on things over 500 from Japan can get to be quite a bit ...not sure about in the UK...you all have a different ball game there lol
That's the strange part though... in Japan they sell the kits complete with radio...some with battery... makes you wonder what happens from there to somewhere else like Ebay sellers...because they sell the same tanks without anything... for twice as much
The only reason I mentioned the 1/6th scale stuff...is because if you are only going to focus on One or Two tanks... man ..you just can't beat the detail on those things...Here's JohnF's Panzer IV ...it's a real beauty...all metal though...so you are talking quite a bit of weight....
http://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/forums/v ... ilit=johnf
But I did find out they do make Plastic I/6 armor...ran into a cool PanzerII kit while browsing Ebay... under 300 US...no inner workings...but it's all there for the conversion....Also a little easier on the eyes
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dragon-Models-1 ... 540fdaf4e3

and if you shop around there are deals like this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-6-SCALE-Sd-Kf ... 7338&rt=nc

It's just a suggestion Jake...

V.Nice.

But a bit too big for me.
I would never just have one or two tanks Alpha, I would like to build a collection of tanks all one brand like Tamiya 8/9 tanks. Hopefully become very good at it.

. I'm just thinking if its worth sacrificing the other brands to achieve it.

U.S. dollars plus shipping plus if you want to battle you still have to buy that.... I guarantee you by the time you are done with accessories and other "stuff" you will drop over a G note on Tamiya no problem...
