The batteries are running together but they're not connected in parallel...
Each battery is powering a section of the whole system as per this wiring diagram:

Wonder how long those are gonna last when driving in the grass??

I made some for my panzer IV and surprisingly they have not broken or been ripped off yet (touch wood!)
