ALPHAs list is an excellent start indeed all I would add is various size HEX head spanners a few different size magnetic screwdrivers and a SOLDERING iron, You find out what you need as you go through a build, a magnifier is expensive but when doing detail work it is essential, A cutting board for those exacto blades and a decent debonder, ( I use ZAP 7) with both a fast acting SUPERGLUE and a slower glue to allow for repositioning of parts. enjoy your build but don't lose sight of why you are doing it. shaun

SOLDERING IRON...very important...don't know how I forgot that lol...did you know you can magnetize your screwdrivers by running them across a magnet?...then demagnetize them by going in the opposite direction?

All EXCELLENT additions to the tool list... interesting enough no one has yet added a BUCKET saddle ( for holding the tools ) ...which of course would require a BUCKET

My only advice is:
Make sure you buy good quality brushes. You can pick up packs on ebay which can be frankly terrible but you have no way of knowing. Mig AMMO and the Mig 502 Abteilung brand brushes are worth the investment. Citadel brushes are pretty good as well. Fat handles on small brushes!
Same with files. I bought a set once which were terribly brittle - I think the plastic I was using them on was tougher.
Do some research on soldering irons. The first one I bought was terrible and I'm bad at soldering so it just compounded the problem!
Investing in a good airbrush and compressor can't be overstated. You don't actually need either however if you do get them, you get what you pay for. A good double action brush is well worth the money.

Yup... I agree with Bill on this.... good brushes and a double action airbrush ..as far as the soldering iron ... it depends on what you are soldering...wires I use a Radio Shack 24 watt ...for parts...I use some old Sears Craftsman 100 and 150 irons ...but it really depends on the gauge of the material...most PE can be done with the 24 watt iron

Thanks guys for all the good advise, I've been looking at air brushes but thought I might use Tamiya sprays instead, I've got a lot of Mig and AK stuff for weathering so that's covered. Soldering thought I might try and avoid that but guess there's no way out of it..

JAKE, You can avoid a lot of soldering if you get hold of some solder free connectors, You will find them by typing SOLDER FREE CONNECTORS in the E-BAY search box, very cheap and easy to use, You talk of using TAMIYA SPRAY PAINTs, AIR BRUSHING can be expensive but it will not cost much more than using TAMIYA SPRAYs, using rattle cans is fine but I would use an auto shop undercoat (Half the Price of modelling paint) SIMONIZ do a great spray red primer which looks great on a TIGER, and Humbrol and a lot of other people make a fine range of both tinned and spray paints which are reasonably cheap. shaun
