BTW forget those generic China ones. We have tested 3000, 3800, 4800, even claimed up to 6800! They all were crap. Most peaked out between 900 and 1500. Stay away from the plain grey wrapper ones especially. The old saying comes true, you get what you pay for...

Thats why I've not gone down the Lipo route yet. I prefer a path of least resistance when it comes to electronics.

I felt the same way about them three years ago, now I love them (and need them for bl car set ups), as long as they are branded and you're not a complete tool, they are no more bother than a NiMH, and, produce current continually, with no drop off, until the lvc kicks in.

I have had HUGE barrel rolls of fifth scale bl rigs, carrying 8000mah 7,8 & 10s softcase lipos, and never once have I been left with 2ks worth of molten rig; the chances of a lipo fire in a tank is, I would say, minimal....the motors will never draw more current than the pack can supply, ergo happy main board, happy lipo

The current battery to board/switch wires in my Taigen are weak and puny, certainly not confidence inspiring in terms of safe current flow. As for the faux, tamiya style connector.....

Some nice silicone wire and a suitable connector, sorted!

I'm not anti NiMH..... just personally don't see the point these days....

I agree with you if you can get that amount of running time out of your 5000 why bother with a lipo. Cheers dgsselkirk. I think I've made my mind up, well hopefully.

No need to change wires.... Lipos are best...take Dgsellkirks.... test results with NiMh .... and multiply the play time by 3 ....put a fully charged lipo in your tank ...don't run it for six months and it will start up and run ... that won't happen with a NiMh

5100 mah batteries here and with upgraded motors both of my tanks run for almost 2 hours each before they need more "gas".

Once I get upgraded smokers and more fans I may need to run more batteries just for them.

Use a Lipo once............ and you will never go back to carbon based batteries...this I can promise

Storing lipos in your tank is a very bad idea, as is not storage charging them in between uses...... I've seen the results of lipo fires and the resultant molten mess...

Knock on Wood.... No problems with either my tanks or Airsoft guns.... it isn't good to "CHARGE" them in either but no problems storing...some of my guns have the batteries in them for over a year...they cannot overheat if nothing is going on...so no chance of meltdown...charging them is a good thing though...letting them die in storage shortens the life of the cells

Just to stick my two cents into the discussion, Lipos are good performers but you have to keep track of when you use them or you will experience the sudden end of juice that comes without warning. All the NIcads will give you some warning that they need to be recharged before they go dead. I'll stick with the large capacity Nicads. Lots of run time without the hassle.
