Good luck with the new tiger project, on another note while i was stationed in germany i popped over the border to le gleize where there is a king tiger surviving from the battle of the bulge. One of peipers after they ran out of petrol and walked back to germany. Its a non runner but has been restored on the exterior. It can be found on you tube under le gleize konigstiger.

Yes mate, I drove all around the Ardennes and went to the La Gleize museum as well. Turns out I was the first New Zealander to ever visit it. Was asked to leave some form of memento behind in the guest book.
There is also a very poignant memorial to the boys of E-company erected by Tom Hanks & Spielberg not far from Foy.
The Vimoutiers tiger is in a sorry state, of course this will happen when destroyed by its crew, and from years in the open. But it was inspiring to be able to get all over it & take in a sense of the presence of these iconic weapons.

Thanks mate, that's good detail for sure. I should be right for chains after the discovery of a store at xmas time that sells costume jewellery etc, but if I cant get one bang on I will get a pair off you for sure.

Been looking at the subject picture a bit more. Can some one give me a heads up on what the telephone pole is attached to that keeps it on the track guards ?
There does not appear to be anything at the rearmost end that it hangs off, and the helmets & crew accoutrements are in front of that, but from this photo, theres nothing wrapping around it that runs back up to the hull. Assuming this is used for assisting in unditching this leviathan when its up to its ass in Russian mud, there must be devices like gate hing gudgeons or similar that are used to secure the thing to the side of the tank., and then to help to drag the pole under the tracks in a morass. There does not appear to be one on the Barn side from what I can tell. Did these guys actually have the very first industrial velcro, or is it just the picture !!!!

your'e right herman

poles/trees were used to extricate the tank when it got stuck in mud/marsh. if you expand the pic you can see two ropes one over the hemets and one ahead of the box resting on the log.

Thanks Doc, I will take your word for it because when I try to zoom the picture it gets so pixilated I loose detail.
Of course there was some form of retention, but you would think that a pole that size on a vehicle like that the securing hardare would be more obvious.

Same would go for the crews stowage, guessing roped from the grill mesh through the chin straps.
On my picture the Fiefel bungs appear to be missing, or at least not dangling from their chains, but again, if I try to zoom it up to big, all detail is lost.
