I got out of sequence, but before the lower hull weathering etc I did a bit of experimenting with paint wear and scratching etc on the sharp corners and long scratches on the flat areas. wasn't overly happy with the result (could have been better with an undercoat of hull red) so went onto the mud effects to cover most of it. I used to do this with a pencil on the small stuff, and the effect was to much on the bigger scale. or so it seemed at the time. I will go back & try again after the final dusting and parts fit out & see how it looks.

Cheers for the comments guys, ya never know how things will be recieved when put out for judgement. By now the wife is up me like a country vet to get the thing done & out of the way, so the pressures on to get this hardware completed and rolling off the line so to speak.
'Rusted the anti-aircraft plates, spare track links & exhaust shrouds with Tamiya Weathering Kit C - orange rust, but only enough to heavily discolour the exhaust shrouds rather than try to simulate years of oxidisation layers & flakes (it hasnt been years in the field). added a bit of Tamiya Set 2 weathering pastels Red Oxide, but this had little noticable impact. Decided to leave them until after the Matt -seal compund had been applied. I cannot stand the sight of fingerprints on Matt painted surfaces, and lets be real, this thing is bound to get handled(because Im just not the type to redo the main trunk line that is the electrics in these things to make it easier!) and a good chance of at least one dogs snot box getting involved in it (while the BB's are reloaded !)
Got the mind made up on the accoutrements positions, and final layout & colouration The rust photographs very bright, but that will get controlled with final dusting etc.

+1 on the Vet comment..... Very good.... :haha: .. Right up to the shoulder joint by now.... 8O
I like the part about the compressor running outside so as not to wake the little ones.... (and possibly result in the insertion of the 'Vets' other Arm :O )
.
If my go with an airbrush comes out half as good as that I shall be a Very happy man..... Well done indeed..
