I can definitely vouch for Dietrich's suggestion. I have a couple of Tiger 1s and a King Tiger that use the correct length aerials with extra wire wound into a roll inside the hull. No diminishment of range over the HL standard antenna is noted.

I had sketchy results.... initially I would have said it was a "fail" a no go... but currently I'm reserving the conclusion till I acquire some solid core wire

the first try was with a winding from a transistor radio... not good...the gauge of the wire used in the windings were too small to have any effect... especially when enclosed inside the hull

the second try was to hook up 200 ft of wound hook up wire...worked well... outside the hull... so I'm not sure it's because of the insulation ... or the wire itself

next try will be getting some solid core wire... build the exhaust system... and use the entire structure as an aerial :/

but so far... nothing has matched the stock antenna :lolno:

Hi ALPHA, I hope all is well in Paradise! The ariel fix is very well described in words and pictures if you go to HENG LONG BUILDS and scroll down" 5" to WILDBOARS Tiger 1 build, go to the 5th page of the build and you will see the neatest of all jobs. shaun
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

I think I found it http://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/forums/v ... 0&start=80...it looks like he used the stock antenna and he didn't specify what transmitter he was going to use...I guess I'll give that one a try too...and let you all know the results afer :D

Thanks again Shaun

Hi ALPHA,
I am still looking for a thread that shows a better photo of the internal aerial.....there is a photo of one version in the 4th post below my Tiger in this post.....Its with a different take on an 'External' Aerial that I tried out.

I will keep looking and try and find a better explanation of an 'Internal Aerial' for you.

Hi ALPHA,
Try this one.....If I find more I will add it to this post....But I think that you will get the idea....The wire that you use HAS to be multiples in length of the standard Heng Long antenna..

Greetings Dietrich
Those links sure provide a lot of information...and it does seem like there is a lot of interest in doing the hidden antenna mod...the one thing that is evident... it's a 50/50 gambit.... sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't....with one interesting conversation going to the point.. where the guy had made several of them for his tanks... then went back to the external aerial ...and was giving the units he made away :haha:

As I was sipping on some coffee... I thought of something...RC helicopters have pretty good range.... and have flexible external aerials that wind around the skids....a lot of tanks carry coils of rope... or tow cables....I don't know if this has been attempted.... but what if you just camouflage the external cable ?...It's kind of a stretch on what I was planning to do on the PANZER III anyway...as I was thinking of fabricating an exhaust system and hiding the coil inside of it..it would still be external... and if I made the exhaust out of copper .... the shell of the exhaust would also become a part of the aerial ....not to mention look cool as it could be hooked up to the smoker :haha:
but that was the initial plan...the coffee might have helped clear my thinking on this.... but just a coil of flexible aerial wire from a helicopter...might be enough... it's thin enough to simulate a thin cable ...or with a stretch of the imagination... made to look like rope...it could be placed anywhere on the outer hull of any tank :D and wouldn't get interference from any internal motors and electricals
I think I'm going to try this ... maybe apply for a patent if it works ... and sell them to you all :haha: :haha:

Just kidding... but I will let you all know if it works or not :D

Just an added note... the 200ft of Hook up wire worked outside of the tank...inside was a "no go"...this was on my gold PANZER...the stuff I used on that is like a liquid metal...dries in minutes...so I also thought that was insulating the signal 8O
But the hook up wire is too thick to camouflage... ...so I will update this if the other wire works :D

YES!!!!!....The Helicopter wire worked

Image

pretty unassuming too... :D ...the good thing about this hook-up is the more you put... the more range you get...I would recommend three... placed strategically around the perimeter of the upper hull

This one gave me double what the internal hook-up gave... I then extended the modified side antenna... since I still had it hooked up... and it increased the range :D

What can I say....THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!....the idea wouldn't have come if you all hadn't have contributed
