Re: Tank Battlefield in South Wales
Another day spent working on the battleground. We had a JCB to play with but halfway through it had a slow puncture, so we had to halt work. Steve is going to try and get a proper excavator there next weekend, which will make short work of what needs to be done. There is a lot of rubbish in there as it has been used as a dumping ground, and we need to get rid of all of it.
We managed to salvage rocks from the dig, which we have put to one side to use to face up cliff walls and valleys etc.
The plan is to remove everything until we are down to hard clay, as this will be the best surface to run tanks on.

Should be, the weather looks good, though bring a pair of boots a the grass soaks trainers in no time, don't ask me how I know this? lol.
Drive in the gate, and follow the track round to the left, you will see us straight ahead, just drive over and say hi. I will be there by about 11am, the others get there a bit earlier. The big guy is Bully, the toothless wonder is Jason, and the tall guy is Andy.
Update - Bring a mug as well, Bully makes us coffee, you will get thirsty watching other people work. I do ! lol.

Re: Tank Battlefield in South Wales
More progress today, it's starting to look more like a battlefield now, though still a long way to go. Thanks to Jason's sculpting with the JCB we now have the basics.
We had excellent sun shiney and hot weather, which made it a great day all round.
Also, a big welcome to Tom who came along to see what we were doing, and who also offered us a large hard surface area if we wanted to make use of it down the road.

Hello again
Great work SWAG!, amazing progress!
, I am following this thread with keen interest.
As I understand it you are building maybe the nearest Battleground in me, even through I am Totnes Devon, I know there was a club near Newton abbot called Devon RC military vehicle group, does anyone know of what happened to them after 2009? please feel free to exaggerate if you don't know, best answer wins a toffee.
Anyway I plan to visit next summer, and given enough information and time I could fill a "plot" with a building or structure, could I be of service?
Cheers Fu.

Thats ok Al, I can assure you that Jason in the JCB is doing 90% of the work, and enjoying himself in the process. The rest of us just chat about tanks, cars, drink coffee and eat biscuits etc, wave the occasional hand at him and tell him where to dig. It takes a lot longer than it looks in the video. Over three weeks that was probably 10 hours JCB work, and we have only scraped off the weeds and dug a trench??
Without the machinery this would have been a non starter, it would have taken forever to do this.
@Fu. The buildings are always welcome, they would need to be pretty realistic though, and as an added bonus, totally water resistant. We are still pondering the best way to do this ourselves.
More progress will be posted when we get some more done.

Re: Tank Battlefield in South Wales
We managed to make a lot of progress yesterday, the basics are now there. The ground was marked out and we set to with the JCB making roadways and hills, valleys etc. We won't do a lot more until the spring as we need to let all of the earth settle, the frost, rain and snow will break up clumps and smooth it all down into solid structures.
It has been designed so that tankers can see 90% of the battlefield from the main hill.
It looks like this will be the first purpose built 1/16 RC Tank battlefield in the UK, hopefully more will follow. It is also good for RC trucks, I wish I hadn't sold mine now.
