Have you looked on the blueprints site, http://www.the-blueprints.com they have some good drawings of all marks of tanks and once you register (free) you can download large scale drawings, I have a load of Panzer IV drawings downloaded including detailed drawings of side skirts and supports.

I have to say fantastic pictures of the STuG IV armour.......a brilliant idea to stop it getting caught and ripped off on the terrain......Thanks for sharing :D

Hi Easter Front,
I think that you need glasses there mate...I DID put STuG IV......... 8O ......

After I edited it..... :haha: ....It had been a long day and I was just glad to see some new shots  ..... I agree about the noise, it must have been a bit worrying at times..but I doubt that a tank is ever very quiet when it is being driven.........I quite like the later 'DragonScale' mesh armour....it certainly looks More Modern.

Hi Eastern Front,
Yes one did survive ...or its a modern copy in the tank museum at Suamur in France.... I have also included the classic war time photo of the slightly nervous looking American soldier.....
(The photos are from the web but clearly belong to 'Narayan Sengupta' so if he objects to the use here on the Forum then I will remove them)

The Dragon Mesh was lighter and cheaper and of course saved steel. The mesh was used as an economy measure but it was still effective against bazookas and the dreaded soviet anti tank rifle. I think the rifle was of 14.7mm Calibre and it was the REAL reason for the German adoption of the side skirts. The armour on the side of the hull by the wheels was too thin to stop the A/T Rifle...so the Panzer III Panzer IV and even the Panther were equipped with the skirts to protect the area above the wheels.

By the way the STug III and not IV was a mistake by me....I edited it and then tried to have a joke with you about it....

Looking at that last piccy of the damage to that tank just brings home how powerful the guns and ammunition was on both sides to cause that much destruction. The damage looks similar to that caused on some of my plastic kits after I'd dropped it yet this stuff was heavy cast or a couple of inches thick.

Imagine going into battle in a sherman or churchill knowing you were up against a Tiger or KT. They'd have to fit my tank with a porta potty before I even left barracks! Very brave men all.
