Tiger 1 central hull weld bead ... Mid Production ?

Post by Wildboar44 »

Hi Tankers ........

Can you help on this one ? . For a Tiger 1 produced late 1943/ early 1944 ( December-January ) , was there a central weld
bead that ran from the front compartment armoured vent directly down the centre line of the hull to the turret ring ?.

I have seen this feature on late production hulls , but cannot confirm yet if this was present on the Mid Production version .

Thanks in advance

Hey Gordo,

I've applied the weld line to my Mid Tiger as well, used styrene. Was the only to get an accurate straight line. This was the ref pic I used.

I'll check my Tiger books as well and no worries chum, I'm back at her. Zimmeriting the turret, Fun.

Also, in the Haynes Tiger Tank Book, Pg 37, top of page, center caption. Just in behind the early version clamp going towards the turret ring and just slightly left of a battle scar is a flush to the upper hull weld bead. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your input Derek , I tried with using two thin strips of plasticard spaced 1mm apart , then ran milliput
in the joint but ..... :{ .. bla...

So followed your tip and cut a thin 1mm strip of plasticard bonded to the hull and then softened it with styrene cement
and pressed in a weld effect with a watch makers screwdriver .... its a Bingo ! .. Nice tip Ace

See you soon Ace
