Does anyone know of an upgrade gearbox that fits the HL Pz IV?
The problem is that any upgrade gearboxes are too wide at the front.
The stock HL gearbox, shown on the left is only about 1 inch wide.

Re: HL Panzer IV Gearbox Upgrade?
Hi
I have just put a set of the Taigen 4-1 steel gearboxes in my Pz IV and my Pz III. I bought them from Welsh Dragon Models.
They just fit height wise and are the same width as the gearbox on the left of your pic.
They seem to be recommended to only fit the Larger tanks like the tiger but as I said I have just fitted them with no problems as yet.
Hope this helps

Glen, I echo Scalawag, if you go to the Welsh Dragon Models website and select Gearboxes, and go for short shaft gearboxes you get a choice, go for low profile and you get a guaranteed fit! good luck. shaun

Re: HL Panzer IV Gearbox Upgrade?
these steel gearboxes (i use them in my Köti and T1 and are superb) will fit as is, if you do not want to correct the HL 'issues'
to match a PzIV road train (idler + road wheels + return rollers + sprockets) profile, you have to lower the last return roller 4mm, to use track tensioner in order to lower the idler, and to rise the sprockets for 3 to 4mm... in this case the steel gears do not fit and toy have to use he low profile ones. I'm right now in the process of install them.
but if you do not want to do all this work, then i think the steel ones could fit
best regards

Glen if you do fit new gearboxes I would strongly recommend you fit a pair of axle support bearings. it is not difficult and makes all the difference. If you go to TIPS & TRICKS you will find instructions on the easy way of doing it. If you do decide to fit axle support bearings I would suggest you get them at the same time as the gearboxes and mention it to Steve at WDM and he will ensure you get the right size bearings. shaun
