Tamiya Jagdpanther

Post by gunpowder17 »

I will be starting my new Tamiya Jagdpanther this weekend. Are there any pitfalls/things to watch out for. Looks pretty straightforward. Im assuming the connector arms to the gun elevation , yaw are as slack as on other tanks. Any good upgrades to use?
Thanks

Thanks for the tips. I usually use the Tamiya extra thin cement , but its too hard to find in the UK now. I use Mr Hobby Mr Cement. I do have plastic weld , i will have to give it a try. Thanks!

OK not got far and amazingly for a Tamiya Tank theres a problem. The torsion bars are too wide. Im not talking alot , roughly 0.1mm , but enough to stop them fitting at all. I have never had this before with any tank. Anyone else had it?

Normally i would agree , but heres the thing. I measured them with my digital vernier. The hole in the stays is 5.6mm , the width of the torsion bar is 5.7 , the same as the King tiger etc. I have even taken the stays back out to see if the bars fit. They just do not fit. Now either the trosion bars on the panther are narrower or my torsion bar stays are just manufactured wrong. Either way its hard to believe in a Tamiya kit.

You can see that the holes , slots in the stays are slightly too small , which is very strange. Its an easy fix , i will just take 0.1mm off of the torsion bars , but like i said , ive never had this before and i have built lots of Tamiya 1/16 tanks over the years.

OK i have come to the conclusion that the torsion bars on the Jagdpanther are different. I made them narrower and now i discover that they ar etoo long They are 85.9 mm long but they should be about 80mm long. Can anyone with a kit measure a torsion bar for me please?

This just gets stranger. The torsion bars are the ones that came in the kit. They were 85 mm which was too long , i had to cut them down to 80mm and now they fit

As you can see , if i had not have chopped 5mm off they would never have fitted , theres no room either end.

I didnt think i was going mad. I must have had the KT torsion bars in my kit. Oh well all sorted now but interesting. I thought they were all the same.
Thanks for you help.
