"Super Version" vs. "Metal Version"

Post by Tiny Tank »

Hi Everybody,
I've been wanting to buy the M26 Pershing and I'm puzzled by the terms "Super Version" and "Metal Version" that are labeled on them. Are they the same thing or different in any way?
Any help will be much appreciated.

In my experience metal version or pro version on Heng Long tanks means comes with basic metal gears (standard ratio) metal drive wheel and metal tracks. I'm not familiar with super version term. Which brand is it on?

Thank you Tankbear.
It's been on the Heng Long tanks on ebay.
RCTankWars.com does the same thing but they call it "all metal" or "super version" with the panzer III. http://rctankwars.com/Products.asp

Which tank do you recomend that can handle very rough terrain? I'm kind of leaning towards the tiger 1 now since its has plenty of metal aftermarket parts for it and the tracks seem the best for traction on loose terrain.

Hi Tiny Tank.

I have had both plastic and metal versions of the HL tiger. And to be honest both versions have the same problem the plastic idle wheels becomes loose which leads to the tracks coming off when turning on grass. It can be fixed by buying the metal idler and fixing with a long 4mm bolt right into the hull.

I prefer plastic tracks to metal but I do get the plastic tracks breaking open occasionally but not enough to put me off.

Hope that helps your decision.

Ian.

Hi Tankbear,
thanks for the all information.

Which gearbox would you recommend? Brass or all metal.

I don't rate the brass, the drive shaft is too thin and bends too easy. At moment i'm impressed with the black metal gears.

They are the the same...the good thing about buying from phil is he tests the tanks before he ships....if you know anything about hl tanks, this is a good thing. Since you are looking at phils site, I assume you live in the US...have you looked for a rc tank club close to you? If you can hook up with them, you might be able to see a tank before you order it.
