Barrel "Kills" decal.

Post by Shane Wolfe »

Hi everyone. Would like to ask if anyone knows if there is a supplier for the decals/stickers that denote kills? Many 88 AA guns and tank barrels had them and when I get a tank I would like to add this to it.

Many thanks for any help.

Just free hand it with a fine brush. thats how the germans did it......if you are you could pretape it if your hands shake.

I have read that many units had rules about not using kill rings, they drew more anti tank fire kinda like the long gun tubes on the fireflys. Shoot at the greatest threat first.....

If you look through these.....many have kill rings....

Thanks for all the help and suggestions, guys. Unfortunately my painting skills have diminished since my modelling days; used to have aircraft hanging from the ceilings and more AFV's littered about the place than Bovington!

Will re-think the barrel rings then, I would like my tanks to have a reasonable amount of authenticity.

Many thanks from Shane.

You could try using dry transfers of the 'Letraset' type. Art and craft shops often have sheets of straight lines in a range of colours. Cut the lines out, stick them to a strip of sellotape to stick them to the barrel and then rub them down with a pencil. the backing sheet comes off with the sellotape. Alternatively you could rub the lines down onto a piece of clear waterslide decal shet and then apply them as a conventional decal.

Trim Tape, available in many colors including white, the tape comes in a single roll but of several widths.

PACTRA is the name brand,I have used this for my ship models waterline stripping as well,it will last and after a thin brush of dull coat the coloring is very flat.

Thank you for the replies, and the photo. I am looking to represent a KT of the 503rd during the Normandy/Op Goodwood timeline, so collecting as many images and info as possible.

Peddinghaus decals have some 1/16 decal sets that include kill rings. If you cannot find them i will send you a link.
