StuG elevation.

Post by ausf »

Got the HL StuG yesterday, everything was okay.

This morning I worked on the smoke generator mods, tested it, then buttoned it back up. The elevation was dead when it was fine a few minutes before. I opened it back up and looked for a crimped/bad wire, etc. I took apart the elevation unit, the motor functions fine on the bench. All the wires work fine, I have clear continuity from the MF unit to the motor. I opened the Tx and it's in order as well.

I guess that leaves the Multi-function, since there's nothing else in the chain. Can it crap out that quickly? There's no obvious damage, it can't be over heating since the thing wasn't run for more than a minute or two at a time, maybe 10 minutes total since opening the box.

I guess I spoke to soon, singing the praises. I emailed the retailer, but I doubt they'll do anything except ask for a return, which I already have a few hours of work into this one. :-<

Any ideas?

Hi asuf,
Have you tried putting the power through the actual connector to the elevation unit plug where it would actually go into the socket on the unit ?..just in case the connector has been pushed out of the white plastic plug itself....That happened to me on my computer last week.....The other option is to put a volt meter across the two terminals on the unit...at the plug when it is connected and see if the plug shows a voltage when the elevation is operated on the remote control when it is all live......If these two tests have no result then the RX 18 unit ( Multi Function Unit ) must be bad although I have never heard of the elevation function failing even on the very early boards...But ...there is a first time for everything. Just as a thought ...would the shop/ retailer just take the RX 18 back to save on postage there and back to you ???, It has to be worth asking them.

Hey Detrich,

I ended up hooking the elevation motor up to the unused turret rotation spot (which was actually opposite where it was supposed to be) so now I have full directional control of elevation.

Thanks for the help, I hope to just get to use it now.... :wtf:
