from what the bloke says blake, i don't think there is a definitive answer. basicly what you and a few others have said, if it looks right it proberly is. think it would depend on batch, thinners, application etc. ther must be hundreds of different shades for each colour paint.

Excellent article,he makes some very valid points about the colors and the R.A.L. system,Life color uses the RAL system number code on the Panzer sets,I wonder which RAL system chips they use as a base?

This really cast a shadow over all the model paints, and their reference to the RAL system, pre war of Occupation code paints, that is the question? How do we find the answer?
Thought you would like that Mate :D

Would it be an idea to put the pdf in the download section then add a link from this topic?

Well Done Tankbear,
I was wondering how long it would take someone to spot that !!! ( Well done Corporal Jones, I was wondering how long it would be for someone to come up with that idea !!,. As Captain Mainwaring used to say in Dads Army ) ..........I of course had NOT forgotten about that option DESPITE it being 0330 hours.........I was just testing members

Brilliant article, he is one lucky guy to have the exclusive salvage rights! Just wondering how in our scale of models the paint colours are affected?

Great post. If you scroll down the original link you will see he he has posted other links to video clips of the tanks. He claims there are more than 20 more vehicles where he found these. Clearly a man of means...

Does not strike me as the sharing his toys type of guy. But I will say he has done all a great service to bring these tanks back to life. And has given me the answer I needed about who got what tanks in the finale days.

But,he might actually need some help restoring these tanks. Should we volunteer? Andy, your Dads work shop, wooden handled tools,Jack blocks, these are certainly needed. You should contact this guy?

Having looked at all the videos of his tanks, whilst I accept that they are well looked after, and are not left out in the weather....Look at the colour of the tracks.....Black and silver steel.....NO RUST...I am fairly sure that a tank used in combat would also have had the same colour tracks...with rust being almost completely absent due to it being worn off in use and by the abrasive action of dirt etc. The rims of the wheels were also very interesting indeed ! The edges where they rubbed against the track guide 'horns' were a bright polished silver steel colour and undoubtedly the Panthers etc etc in combat would have had the same 'Shiney edges' to their wheels as well.....just a couple of points worth checking for the real 'stickler for accurate detail' modeller.
That guy has some SERIOUS MONEY.......just recovering the tank out of the river would probably bankrupt most of us...never mind actually returning it to full working condition 8O
He is a lucky man to have 1-1 Scale German Tanks to 'Play' with :haha: ....I must admit to being a bit envious...

Hi Eastern front,
I am sorry about the late reply.....The wheels look Fantastic....The gun metal colour paint is a great match and I love the way that at a certain angle it is shiney but at another it is dark....Its a good photo as well. :D
