Reborn Tanker

Post by Huwie »

Hi guys.

I've been popping onto your awesome website for quite a while and recently decided to enlist.

A short summary about me:
When I can find some spare time, between contracts.................and working through the job lists my wife kindly compiles for me when I'm away, I build models (industrial steam engines, SciFi and military scale). I'm probably the same as most guys -plenty of projects and very little time.
I'm based in the UK but currently building a power plant in Qatar.

I must admit, I've not started my RC tank building hobby very well -ordering a Tamiya King Tiger (full option), with almost every mod part you can think of whilst being out in the Middle East. It doesn't sound like an issue but having them sent home and not being there to intercept the packages and pay the odd customs charges would have saved some searching questions from the wife................... :silent:
-She'll probably have a big job list waiting for me!

Building models takes skill and expertise but in equal measures it also takes an understanding wife.........

Well hello and welcome! Fellow tanker! I no whay you mean about having an understanding partner. The dinning room table is like a mini workshop at mine! And I'm sure I'm not alone! Even the sheds been taken over! I've not been a member that long but I've learned a lot! There's not much left of my heng long tiger is mostly upgrades and custom alterations by me. Some mods are a ballraced turret and I've changed the pivot point of the mantel to the correct point so the gun elevates correctly it's never ending the list goes on and on. I got hold of an early tamiya king tiger with Porsche turret and custom zimmerit it's got new tamiya gear boxes fitted but that's it! Needs a lot of work to make a good tank out of it. Have you seen you tamiya tank yet or is it still waiting for you when you get home!
I love the smell of napalm in the morning!

Hi Huwie,
Welcome to the Forum.
You are probably aware that this is a friendly place with lots of people willing to share their knowledge and experience with everyone. There is a search box located in the top right hand corner of the main Forum banner but if that doesn't help then just post a question and there is bound to be someone who comes along in a while to answer it or to point you in the right direction.
A very brave choice of 'First Tank' if I may say so...it will be great when it is finished and up and running. Just keep it out of the sand in Quatar..it is bound to get stuck in that fine dry stuff :haha:

Hi Reborn Tanker.

You have the priorities right, get your wife on side first. The rest is easy.
Start building, we are looking forward to photo's of the Tiger.

Hi The Tank Man.
I completely know what you mean about finding extra space -I think the only potentially viable space left is the loft. The double garage is resident to one of my 'suspended' projects (a MK4 Golf V6 4Motion rebuild)
I've not see my new project in the flesh yet, sadly I've been limited to trawling the internet for inspiration. I will have to do my duty thing with the other half and will probably suffer the odd shopping trip :'( then the numerous boxes will be liberated from the spare room and I take over the dining room table -probably clearing daily until the wife has been 'acclimatised'.............baby steps......
I've tracked down and purchased virtually every drive train & suspension mods available after reading the customer reviews, so I will end up with quite a few OEM spares. According to the wife, the spare room is stacked high with boxes.
I might have to do some research on the ball-race turret mod B| I've also been thinking about going with the ball-race wheel bearing mod even though I've opted for the modified brass bearing mod.
7 days to go..................!!

Howdy Dietrich.
Thank you and the rest of the guys for the warm welcome.
I have been debating whether to leave all my gear out in Qatar for the R&R trip back to the UK and then return with my model kit but knowing how things are out here with 'administration' it would prove to be a tad risky, so I'll have to do all the good stuff back in the UK. Shame, as there are plenty of open spaces out here and would keep the wife happy. It would be a different look to create a DAK King Tiger.......? Inaccurate but would be appropriate for the surroundings.

I'll try my best to take photos as I go to record the build progress. Hopefully I won't superglue myself to the camera :D It may not turn out to be historically accurate or super detailed but I'll give it a good go.
-Another KT for the forum annals.....
